Necromancer and Conjuror both can have one regular pet up at the same time. And I think we get equal amount of dumbfires - but I'm not sure as I play a conjuror, not a necromancer. To list it up (so you know it), I can have

classrelated:1 mainpet (earth, fire, air and water if AA specced in conjuror tree)2 dumbfires (water and fire)1 animated dagger (if AA specced in summoner tree)2-3 pets from communion (lvl80 spell, amount depends if you have waterpet specced or not)

others:1 racial pet (clockworks for gnomes, quite long cast and small range, don't know if there are others)1 diety pet (doesn't attack, just a buff and not class related)some tinkered pets (not class related)

Usually I only have the mainpet and one dumbfire/communion out there. Mobs just die to fast

I think necros have the same pets except communion, which makes us the class with "more" pets. That's true.

Animated dagger doesn't do much damage, I'm not sure if it does make a difference if you put more points in it. Main purpose for me is that it can trigger Elemental Vestment

Hydromancer is generally not seen as a good choice. She is very tricky to work with and can never be main healer. Also you give out your mainpet if you have her out. She helps a bit with communion though.

I'd say the Hydromancer pet should be the last thing you bother getting from AP.

Charm Undead for Necromancers allows them to have a 2nd "main" pet, something Conjurors don't have.

As far as I can tell by mousing over the ability.. the dagger AA only gets a longer duration from points, not increased damage.

i think it does get inc damage, i tested it awhile back so something may have changed, but im fairly certain it does. This doenst make putting more than 4 points into it worth it though, imo.
