I found this system in Newegg.com To me it looks like a solid system that would run EQ2 very smoothly on fairly high settings. I guess i'm asking what would you change to make it slightly better, or is it just fine as is.

CyberpowerPC

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

64 bit proc

2GB DDR2 800 mem

8600GT 512mb x2

Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit

600watt pwr

Raidmax CPU Fan

nForce 650i SLI

Asus P5N-E SLI

680 or 780 board rather than the stock 650, another 2GB of ram (1066 instead of 800) and a larger PSU (750w minimum). The rest is ok.

the system I was looking at was $1050.00, so if I decide to go with your suggestions, how much am I looking at adding to that?

$1300 - $1400 at a guess. There are reasons for my suggested changes though. 1) The 680 or 780 boards are more aimed at gamers than the 650 or 750 boards and perform much better. EQ2 will only use 2GB of RAM but 4GB is becoming the standard these days. The video cards that you have selected use up around 200w of power each and if later you upgrade to 8800 cards they use 300w each so a larger PSU is a good buy. Instead of buying a pre-made system you could get a much better deal by building one yourself if you feel confident doing so. A word of advice though. The modern motherboards like the 680 or 780 are incredibly sensitive, much more so than earlier boards. Ensure that the power cable is unplugged and that you have waited for 30 seconds or so before swapping out hardware to prevent damage.

I agree with what Stuka1000 says, except in my opinion unless your planning on using Vista right at this moment you don't really need 4 gigs of ram. You can always get 2 more gigs later if you feel you need them, but the extra 2 gigs aren't going to make much of a difference in EverQuest 2 (or most other games, with exception of some like Supreme Commander).

thanks guys, great advice, and definitely valided. I think for now, the only change i'll try to make is the motherboard, and most likely go with 2k corsair ram 1066. In the future, I can always swap the hardware myself when my budget becomes a bit more flexible.
