View Full Version : Bad reputation
The swashy final epic fight has such a bad reputation that i cant even get close to forming a group for it anymore.

Last night, everyone vowed NEVER to help with the Swashbuckler Pirate Jones encounter again. Here is what happened.

I died no less than 40 times last night getting this done.

We started out with SK (Fear Immune), Swashbuckler, Templar, Fury, Coercer, and Brigand. We used the technique to pull 3 adds with Circular Strike and took them out. After several attempts, we got Jones down to 40 percent and were wiped by the 2nd adds and the bird.

We swapped the Brigand out for a Warlock and Static Discharged the other adds. Took them out as well. Died a few more times.

Swapped out our Templar and Warlock for a Raiding Templar and Warlock. Both brought signets of clear voice/etc. Burned miracles as well and still died many times.

Templar, Warlock, Coercer, SK were swapped for Zerker, Illusionist, Dirge, other Raid Templar. Failed several times.

Swapped Dirge for 2nd Swashbuckler. Died a few more times.

Finally with miracles and a bit of luck and most of the party with raid experience, we managed to kill Jones. The Fury and I, the only original members, left with about 18 percent xp debt and 4 to 5 hours spent trying to do this. I think this is a bit excessive.

- Satyr / Angelo

Antonia Bayle

Hey Satyr. Good to hear that you got it done in the end. I was going to check up on you when I logged in tonight. Congratulations. That encounter is absolutely ridiculous.I'm happy to hear you had problems doing it with other tanks too. I was beginning to think it was me.

Haha no , it wasn't you at all. Everyone agreed that you were tanking very well, and there is nothing more anyone could have done.

Reading all the posts, it really does come down to a great party, and more importantly, luck. It seems that most people took 30ish tries until the Pirate did his special attacks sparingly enough to get him down. Those who took fewer times must have gotten luckier sooner!

The encounter takes a phenomenal group and a lot of luck. Of not however, we don't need to go deep into Chardock for our Epic, and many other classes do. Really the last encounter should be a pain : )
I have went deep into chardok for other classes epic quite successfully, but still havent had a winning swashy epic fight.

I see a lot of people having problems and don't understand it. Took me 2 attempts to do this fight.....the first time I tanked it as a Swash with a 5 man group. Swash-Swash-Dirge-Warden-Inquis. We got it down to 30% before wiping when second set of adds came. Second attempt we added a Paladin to tank it and beat it. It is simply not that hard.

Be lucky on his AOE's2. Hope he does not cast the bird straight away3. Use clear voice from city merchent4. Burn him in 60sec or before the bird pops.If all that happens the fight seems easy.

Hearing alot about causal Swashy paying lvl 60 raiding guild mem(20-50p) per toon just to finish this encounter.

I've helped many in deep chardock etc - enough have quests there and they just added masters off names there. not a massive deal to get a group there. High risk maybe but also potential rewards from blue shinies to masters.Swashy epic has no loot, lots of risk and no rewards except maybe the swashy if things get lucky. With the changes to the adds dont see many more new swashy epics comming outside the better raiding guilds. Massive risk very low reward return for the group as a whole, and not worth it for raiding guilds untill they can get the fabled turned into mythical - enough decent fabled weapons drop from raids which are comparable anyways. Not seeing how I can progress on this now, pretty much killing my interest.

In a lot of ways our epic is easier than many classes, part of what makes it special is killing the last named (who I admit is insane). It can be done, we did it without the status items in city, and without pulling the adds off of the boat first. You need a chanter, two healers, and heavy dps. (and a lot of luck). The key here is to BURN BURN BURN, you need to concentrate on maxing out dps fully, as a swashy that's the fun part. We actually had two swashies in my group, one was tanking and I was pure dps. The status items that prevent stun do help, so get them if you can. Think max dps, chanter working his but off, heals working their but off. You'll still probably all wipe to the adds, but as long as you kill the name, boom update.

You should not complain about our final epic step until you have had the honor of helping a defiler - Barf bucket anyone? hehe

The fight honestly isnt bad at all. Just all need to get on vent or TS and just do it.

Zerker, Temp, Defiler, Swashy, Assassin, Dirge.

He spawns, tank grabs with sanctuary on, When the [Removed for Content] bird spawns you mezz it. You burn pirate jones asap with tanking keeping ae's til add pirates come. You dont even have to kill everything, just burning the named will get you the weapon, but of course just doing the whole fight isnt bad either.

Ran the Pirate Jones encounter on Test and i have got to say i think they may have went overboard with nerf to him... I tanked it as a Swash for another swash friend..

Swash Swash Templar Fury Assasin Dirge..

The adds did not seem to hit nearly as hard, the bird is yellow con and does not taunt, the AOE knockback and trauma dot was not even noticeable, and he never once feared us.. I am in a way dissapointed they took it down this far, now instead of the Swash Epic final encounter being feared its going to be laughed at.

Maybe they'll beef it back up b4 GU 44 goes live but if not, atleast i have the privaladge to say i ( I got mine b4 they nerfed him)

Hopefully i can do this fight before LU #44.

Finally got the epic after way to many tries.

Had a Pally tanking, assasian, dirge, warden and templer. Warden cast tortius shell on the pull with the templer casting sanctuary on the pull. After the first AOE went off the dirge cast aoe blocker. The pally was fear immuned through aa's and we just burned as fast as we could. On the first set of adds we just aoed to keep them off the healers, on the second set I used the bristlebane mircle of falling anvils. The Paladin droped with the mob at 5 pct, I had it till like 2pct and luckley the dirge was able to get the final hit for the kill.

This is a pain of a fight, and I am so glad I will not have to do it again, but its doable, just have to have luck on the bird poping.

Good luck to you all.
