Greetings, my fellow Shadowknights! As of this writing, I'm lvl 65 and have just started to get to the high-end zones and instances. While tanking in these groups like Vaults and Acadechism, I'm catching myself getting overwhelmed with the button-clicking! Are there certain macros that you all use to maybe lump together taunts or spells? I've never really messed with creating macros so I'm brand new to this.Vindaine

i have

an HO macro with pariah's strike + insidious promise

a self-targetting reactive macro

a self-targetting FD macro

After that, I find i have enough space on the 3 "good" hotbars (read: keyboard-able) with all my buffs on a 4th one. At 62 I have 2 empty spaces on my bars for pestilence and the str line CA, and those will be the last two I get. Do you have a ton of other macros that you are using? I'd suggest moving those to a different bar that you can click when you need them, so you can keep the keyboard-able ones open.

I was fighting with this earlier trying to free up space on my hotbars but there wasn't much I could find that fit well together. Here's what I do have that made sense to me.

- AA ability Hammer Ground then my ward (Life Pact)...seemed to make sense as I always seem to ward after that ability anyway

- I've got my DD snare spell (Pain's Wrath) then my fodder pet (Grave Sacrement). I seem to open up a lot with that spell and always have time to cast the pet as the mob is running to me.

- I've got my encoutner taunt (Chastisement) then my wisdom debuffing ability (Anguish)...both of these seem to debuff and make all my spells do more damage overall so it seemed to make sense to slap them together.

That's pretty much it for functioning macros...most other stuff I have are speaking emotes macroed to my abilities on long timers.

We have great situational flexibility...lump too many things together on macros and you lose some of that flexibility.

For instance...if you put mit debuff and wis debuff on same macro, thats over 3sec of no taunting on target, you can easily lose aggro to a high dps'er in that time frame.

Some really important macros to have are:

Self FD(as Pratell pointed out)

Stand - to cancel FD

Rescue - "Casting Rescue to Grab Aggro - 10min recast" or etc

Death March - most likely a group and raid version of this - group for dps and raid for drawing aggro(ie. gonna need heals asap)

MT MA and OT related macros

Target macro that you can edit for situational needs (ie. target MT, target MA, target mob_name_01 for certain encounters)

Aside from those already mentioned: I have a combined target and taunt macro which I can edit the name to be targetted on- this is useful for grabbing special spawns before they get on the group (sunchild, persadura, etc). I have a group intercede macro to let the healer know I'm about to take damage.

Only macros I find worth using are those that add text to an ability to let the group/raid know whats going on so they can adjust. Anything else ties my hands too much on the flow of a chaotic encounter.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm going to make that FD macro when I log in! Seolta, I see your point about not putting together too many things for fear of losing flexibility. So all in all it looks like I'll only be making a few macros. I guess maybe I need to figure out a better layout for my hotbars then. Right now I have 5 hotbars, shrunk down to "size 33" and shortened so each hotbar is 6 on top/6 on bottom, stuck in the right-lower part of the screen. Thanks for your knowledge!Vindaine

Obviously, stuff like Tap Veins, Infernal Blessing, and Hammer Ground would have to be excluded and left out on the hotbars. But other stuff... you will more than likely try to spam whenever they are up. You certainly don't lose any flexibility... they are just spam spells after all.
