Eq2 has been hands down my favorite mmo I've ever played... and I've played a lot, including...Second LifeThereWorld of WarcraftStar Wars GalaxiesLord of The Rings OnlineCity of heroesCity of VillainsEverquest2Lineage 2Guild WarsMatrix Online+More (cant remember right now)I own all of those games, the only reason why I left EQ2 was performance.I run on Intel P4 1.70gHz768MB RamATI 9200 with omega drivers.I would have to play on second worse performance and still get lag.I wouldn't run across land. I would skip.I last played EQ2 last April of 07I hope performance has improved some what.Would anyone know if it has?Or if it hasn't what I could do to improve performance other than the obvious PC upgrade, maybe disabling some options in EQ2.

The only thing it really lacks at the moment is dual core performance. There are a few zones that lag for people. But, over the past two years, things have improved over all on the server side.However. Its server side performance really isn't going to help you much on your current setup. 768 megs of RAM is barely minimum by today's standards. I would suggest getting a video card with at least 256 megs (you didn't mention how much video ram you had) and add another gig of RAM to your box. You should be able to play in Balanced with little lag. And, High quality with lag just in the high traffic areas. If I were you I'd start considering upgrading/replacing your computer rather than waiting for the game industry to dumb down their minimum requirements. EQ2 is a very graphically demanding game. At least 3x more than WoW. I don't see SOE or any game company for that matter, supporting antiquated systems for much longer with computers as cheap as they are these days and all the new technologies forthcoming.

I honestly wouldnt even attempt to play with under 1gb of ram 2gb being recommended for anyone. The 9200 is a very low end and old card so you wont be pushing even eq2's dated engine much with that, the cpu then is also a huge bottleneck as EQ2 is very cpu dependant and a 1.7 P4 will be a touch low to push anything much from the game. Itll run but i dont know what youll be able to turn on graphically without issues and loading times may be a bit high.

It is probably one of the most system resource demanding games in exsitance today. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> I barely got it to run on 2.8Ghz w/128 video ram and 1 gig of RAM. And, it was still unplayable. You could upgrade your box for around $300 with new ram and video card that would be adequate. But, realistically, for just $100 or $200 more you could just get a brand new computer on sale from Best Buy that's fully loaded. I'm currently playing on a 2.8Ghz, 2Gigs of RAM and an Nvidia with 256megs of RAM. I play in balanced mode. There are tons of performance features you can turn down or off to increase your performance. You might want to check out all the tips in the Tech Support forum for increasing performance.

In fact, iirc, zoning uses up over 1gb which means with anything less you'll be disk swapping, and no one wants that.</p><p>Having said that though, if you are planning on upgrading the rest of your box soon (real soon, not SOE 'soon'<img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> then most liklely you'll need new style memory so you can get it then.</p><p>Number one thing to turn off without impacting play is shadows.</p>
