I recently installed a new HDD in one of my systems due to some complications with the old one, and went ahead and hopped on the Vista bus for the OS. I ran EQ2 after installing the game on the new HDD and loading in some of my UI files and other files regarding my toons (so I wouldn't have to re-do everything), and it went just fine without any noticeable problems. I already knew of the "run as administrator" issue and started the game that way. Now, this was several days ago and ever since then when I load into the game the performance is just tanked. Doesn't matter what toon I play or what zone I'm in. I learned of the F11 in game function from the chat channels and saw that my ping was staying around 280-320 (which doesn't sound too hot, but I don't know what it was doing when it was behaving fine) and my fps stays between 8-14. Now, I changed nothing in the graphic settings of the game between when it was working that one time just fine on Vista as to these recent loads. I've spent a couple hours reading through all the posts on Vista problems I could find and I have done many of the suggestings, including making sure I have all important updates (including the hotfix provided by Microsoft for that 2 Gig memory issue, or whatever), always starting the game by "running as administrater, etc. My windows firewall and defender are both disabled, I currently have no anti-virus, or any other anti-anything, software running. No matter what I do I'm still running the game horribly and have changed only my OS and HDD as far as software and hardware are concerned. Once again, I did play the game for several hours on all my same settings and it went well. I've updated all my drivers to the latest versions (at least as far as video and sound are concerned) and have even tried the ones provided by Nvidia and then tried the Omega ones. I've also un-installed and re-installed the game just in case something went wrong.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what my problem(s) could be??? I'm at a loss. Apparantly, as you can tell, I know enough to just get me in trouble...but I'm at my wits end here. Below are the stats for my PC. Thanks in advance!!

Operating System: Windows VistaTM Home Basic (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_gdr.071023-1545) Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: MSI System Model: MS-6702E BIOS: Version 07.00T Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+, ~1.8GHz Memory: 2046MB RAM Page File: 641MB used, 3671MB available Windows Dir: C:Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 10DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 6.00.6000.16386 32bit Unicode

ard name: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS (Omega 1.169.25) Manufacturer: NVIDIA (Omega 1.169.25) Chip type: GeForce 7800 GS DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Device Key: EnumPCIVEN_10DE&DEV_00F5&SUBSYS_1FA419F1&REV_A2 Display Memory: 775 MB Dedicated Memory: 248 MB Shared Memory: 526 MB Current Mode: 1280 x 1024 (32 bit) (75Hz) Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor Driver Name: nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll Driver Version: 7.15.0010.9686 (English) DDI Version: 9ExDriver Attributes: Final Retail Driver Date/Size: 11/2/2006 02:46:12, 3022848 bytes WHQL Logo'd: Yes

Description: Speakers (Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM)) Default Sound Playback: Yes Default Voice Playback: Yes Hardware ID: PCIVEN_1102&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_20021102&REV_04 Manufacturer ID: 1 Product ID: 100 Type: WDM Driver Name: ctaud2k.sys Driver Version: 6.00.0001.1242 (English) Driver Attributes: Final Retail WHQL Logo'd: No Date and Size: 2/13/2007 16:46:06, 520504 bytes Other Files: Driver Provider: Creative HW Accel Level: Basic Cap Flags: 0xF1F Min/Max Sample Rate: 100, 200000Static/Strm HW Mix Bufs: 1, 0 Static/Strm HW 3D Bufs: 0, 0 HW Memory: 0 Voice Management: No EAX(tm) 2.0 Listen/Src: No, No I3DL2(tm) Listen/Src: No, NoSensaura(tm) ZoomFX(tm): No

Name: Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family PCI Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)Device ID: PCIVEN_10EC&DEV_8169&SUBSYS_702C1462&REV_103&18D45AA6&0&58 Driver: n/a

I've copied what I think it's important from my dxdiag, if another section is needed I have the file saved...just let me know. Thanks again!

1. what is the system performance rating from the Vista information screen

2. why run Omega drivers? Those drivers are 6 months out of date. Check the knowledge base for the current supported Vista Nvidia drivers

3. you need to let the system settle in a little. Vista does a self-learn and reorginazation of the driver over the first couple of weeks

4. sorry to say it, but the 3000 is a little weak in the processor line and Vista has a hogher base system requirement

I have it on an AMD 5600 with an 8800GTS, 2gigs and I get massive CPU spikes just clicking. It seems to be par for the course..Go back to XP...you will be glad you did

Thanks for the replies. I'd just like to restate that I tried the regular Nvidia provided drivers and ALSO the Omega ones, I've just left it where it was after my last attempt of playing around with the drivers. The performance rating was at 3.8, and that was due to the CPU field, the rest showed 4.5 or higher....graphic was 5.8. Anyway, I guess my next question is: Any thought why it ran find for several hours with the same CPU, nvidia drivers, vista OS, etc. and the next time and subsequent times I go to log in it's horrible? The other thing I'd pose is I have two systems, both of them run eq2. The other system has Vista as well, new HDD and load of OS on it as well (actually newer than the system that is having the trouble) and I am having none of these issues on it. Very perculiar. I'll list some of my stats from the other system if that'll help spark anything further...thanks again, I hope I continue to get some help.

Operating System: Windows VistaTM Home Basic (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_gdr.071023-1545) Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: NVIDIA System Model: AWRDACPI BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3700+, ~2.2GHz Memory: 3070MB RAM Page File: 732MB used, 5596MB available Windows Dir: C:Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 10DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 6.00.6000.16386 32bit Unicode

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce 6800 GT DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Device Key: EnumPCIVEN_10DE&DEV_0045&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_A1 Display Memory: 519 MB Dedicated Memory: 248 MB Shared Memory: 271 MB Current Mode: 1600 x 1200 (32 bit) (75Hz) Monitor: Hitachi CM812 Driver Name: nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll Driver Version: 7.15.0011.6925 (English) DDI Version: 9ExDriver Attributes: Final Retail Driver Date/Size: 12/11/2007 17:06:00, 5263360 bytes WHQL Logo'd: Yes WHQL Date Stamp: Device Identifier: {D7B71E3E-4305-11CF-BD78-0B2001C2CA35} Vendor ID: 0x10DE Device ID: 0x0045 SubSys ID: 0x00000000 Revision ID: 0x00A1 Revision ID: 0x00A1 Video Accel: ModeMPEG2_A ModeMPEG2_C

Description: Speakers (Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM)) Default Sound Playback: Yes Default Voice Playback: Yes Hardware ID: PCIVEN_1102&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_20021102&REV_04 Manufacturer ID: 1 Product ID: 100 Type: WDM Driver Name: ctaud2k.sys Driver Version: 6.00.0001.1242 (English) Driver Attributes: Final Retail WHQL Logo'd: No Date and Size: 2/13/2007 16:46:06, 520504 bytes Other Files: Driver Provider: Creative HW Accel Level: Basic Cap Flags: 0xF1F Min/Max Sample Rate: 100, 200000Static/Strm HW Mix Bufs: 1, 0 Static/Strm HW 3D Bufs: 0, 0 HW Memory: 0 Voice Management: No EAX(tm) 2.0 Listen/Src: No, No I3DL2(tm) Listen/Src: No, NoSensaura(tm) ZoomFX(tm): No

Name: Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet ControllerDevice ID: PCIVEN_11AB&DEV_4320&SUBSYS_E0001458&REV_134&22552C75&0&5870 Driver: C:Windowssystem32DRIVERSyk60x86.sys, 10.51.0001.0003 (English), 12/6/2007 09:51:00, 298496 bytes
