Alright so I got to level 40 with minimal issues thanks to eq2i but lately I have found that mobs that I am soloing take a good chunk of work to kill (Mainly in Steemfont) and I go through power pretty quick as well. I have soloed my whole way to 40 and been buying upgrades off the broker for gear. Just all of a sudden I have had problems. Focusing Str and Int when it comes to gear and AA's.

Also on another note I am looking at doing some grouping but I am hesitant because I don't know how to tank with my SK. I have a warrior in WoW that I tank with so I understand the basic concepts of tanking but I'm not sure on the basics of it as it pertains to SK's and their abilities. I know I have taunt and a few other threat generating abilities but I am unsure if I just spam these or not.

start grouping soon if you ever plan to group in higher level content. things get more complexand the early experience will train you to be ready for the late game. If you solo to level 80 (which is very easy to do) then start tanking you'll develop a bad rep (or be accused of being a E-Bay) and people wont always give you a chance to learn at thier expense.

in regards to your first question. Remember the higher you get the touger your enemies get exponentially so you will experience an increase in toughness about every 10 levels give or take.

Thanks for the info.

I guess I'll also ask any tips for being an effective tank as a SK? I would assume hit taunt and any other threat generating abilities a lot but that seems overly simple to what I'm used to.

SK taunts are some what weaker than other classes, and do poorly against big burst DPS classes. So to compensate I suggest ramping up your DPS, learn to love Death March (lvl 55 or so for this), use your heal ward as often as possible on your self . Don't be afraid to FD someone who can't control their DPS. Harm Touch is also a good attention gaining ability if a mob turns away from you. and of course you have Rescue for when you HAVE to get the mob on you.I generally have no problems holding agro except for those that like to push as much DPS possible, results be damned. I just /tell the healer not to heal them and let them die a few times, they wise up after a bit. Agro control is a group effort, but that doesn't mean you can be lazy about it. Some classes have hate boosting abilities, ask for them. (they sohuld be putting on you with out asking).

Monks/bruisers don't get shields and the guardian/berserker slams don't have the added threat component (They can however do the AOE one when stunned or silenced which is nice). This of course requires a sword & board rather than a two hander and that would lower autoattack DPS and can't have that! Knight single target taunt may seem weaker at first but the SK version does additional damage over time which brings it up to about the same (paladin version is additional hate over time).

If you keep your taunt, group taunt, slam, caress (The hate when hit) and defenseive stance spells at adept3 or higher and spam the taunt/slam you will generally only have problems with people trying to make sure they are #1 on DPS meters. Cast your blessing line, open up with AOE taunt as it also lowers their disease resist, taunt, slam, aoe dotx2 if its a group. The amount of hate generated by your aoe, heals/damage from the blessing and hate from the caress line will usually keep things on you through getting healed. Just stay on your toes around trigger happy warlocks when fighting groups Later on you do get additional aoe abilities, the biggest help being tap veins (1000 damage/heal you 500 for every target hit). Also check the broker for "Doom Judgement", its a level 35 spell that came with the bloodlines expansion pack so i don't think it gets added to your book at 35 automatically. Rest are 55+ if memory serves.

If you've been soloing up until now and not spamming your taunts your aggression skill may be in the toilet. Spend an hour or three soloing easy stuff and spamming your taunts before you try and tank for a group if it is. The caress line can also increase aggression skill if you want to stand around and spam that.

At 40 you are at the low end of the new tier again too. Likely you'll be upgrading greyed/last tier gear, and getting your new spell versions soon enough as well. By 42-43 towards the end of the Tier, you'll be back to squashing things in no time.

Some sweet tanking tips here.

Other than that....practice practice practice. Some guilds might help you out. Also (but less likely) doing "ride-alongs" with another SK with time to kill (seem to find a lot of those on my server) can be helpful.

SC
