Failed to create D3D device for NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS

<p>I recently upgraded my computer by giving it a Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS. Before the upgrade, I was using a Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT and EQ 2 ran just fine. Now, when i click PLAY, a Fatal Error pops up saying:</p><p>Everquest II has detected an unrecoverable error and must shutdown.</p><p><verify> E:liveeq2frameworkcoredevicessrcDirectX9RenderDevi ce.cpp (1059):</p><p>Failed to create D3D device for NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS.</p><p>I downloaded the SOE recommended driver for my video card and the April DirectX, and still no results.</p><p>What is wrong? Do I need to reinstall EQ2? I have been unable to play for a few days now, and missing it. Any help would be appreciated!</p>

<p>I am using driver version  162.18 on both my FX5900 ultra and my  7800 GS.</p><p>you can check if that is the most stable one for your 7900GS</p><p>Some times installing the driver twice - The second time after a re-boot helps.</p><p>I have never needed the 3'rd party complete Nvidia un-installs but some insist you need to un-install before using a new video driver.</p><p>----------------------------</p><p>I have had to get 2 different download from Microsoft in the past when I re-installed eq2 on a different computer using these same cards.</p><p>There were  listed here in the tech note and I hope someone else can point you to them as I can't find the link just now.</p><p>-----------</p><p>Start with the video card driver </p>

<p>Tried the video card driver.</p><p>It did nothing, unfortunately.</p><p>Can ANYONE PLEASE provide me with this microsoft updates you were talking about. Going this long with out EQ2 is unhealthly, haha. I really REALLY want to play.</p><p> Thank you.</p>

uninstall the old drivers with <a href="http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Driver Cleaner</a> for best resultsreboot PCInstall new driversDownload AT LEAST the August or November DirectxC, not the April.

<p>Used Drive Cleaner to sweep all the NVIDIA drivers off my comp and then reinstalled the driver.</p><p>Tried BOTH the August and November Directx 9s.</p><p>STILL will not work.</p><p>I have gone from wanting to play EQ 2 to being bitterly mad at SOE. Is there any final suggestions anyone can add to this? My last resort is to just get a new video card but the 7900 GS works for all my other games brilliantly and it would be sad to spend another $100 + just so i can play EQ 2.</p><p>What do I do now?</p>
