So I've decided on creating a sarnak shadowknight and a wood elf warden as my two mains. I'm a roleplayer, and since I've never really gave EQ2 solid attention before, I am in need of developing a background for both of them. However I'm lacking some key information, which is mainly race lore on these two races.I started my elf in Kelethin so I'm not sure if she could've originally been a Qeynos citizen or if she was in Kelethin from the very beginning. I'd also have to develop a story out of that and know the lifespan of wood elves.Sarnak location wise is pretty simple; Gorowyn. However I know almost no sarnak lore whatsoever or their lifespan so developing a sarnak character will likely be a lot more difficult.Any help that is offered is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Thats the thing about the new Sarnak: They don't know thier history. They've only existed for about 50 years, and the NPCs in Timorous Deep explicitly state over and over again that they're still searching for thier past because they know almost nothing about who they are, or even who the sarnaks who made them are.... even after 50 years.

The lifespans for races in this game are never stated. The EQ2 Pen and Paper game gives a general lifespan, but that's the Pen and Paper game, and not EQ2 itself. the P&P states that wood elves live generally about 700 years. If you started in Kelethin, then you have every right to claim you were born and have been living there for as long as you like.

Guess I'll need to spark the creative juices then. Though there were sarnak in the original EQ which is like 500 years ago from EQ2 time. Strange... I'm confused now.

Despite being only about 50 yrs old as a race, the Gorowyn Sarnak do have a creation story already. Though you only get access to it in the high 70s, so it may be something which, by a personal timeline, your character isn't supposed to know until s/he's much older and much more mature. The lore is found in the book The Unclaimed Eye, collection quest reward from pages found around the Danak Shipyard. Short version - the Iksar were almost perfect, the Sarnak they created were a bit closer to perfect, but found the missing something extra the Iksar lacked. They created the Gorowyn Sarnak with this missing bit, but couldn't contain them. The Gorowyn Sarnak are, therefore, the ultimate race. And, as usual, destined to conquer the world. For once I'd love to see an "evil" race who's main ambition wasn't to enslave or destroy everyone else they find. Why does evil always have to be ultimate evil?

They have thier issues with the Di'Zok and Sathirians, for certain, but they don't act evil and malicious. They even let Qeynosians and Kelethinites openly trade with them (even if they're still KOS in those two cities because of their classes.) Out in the field, thier Parsers are conducting scientific research to help defeat the aviaks who just won't leave them alone. They've made friendly alliances with the dwarves in Butcherblock.

One of the questlines later on in Timorous Deep involves a plot to spread a disease into the eggs of the aviaks, though it is called off because a higher up believes that the Parser who gives you the quest has done very well and deserves a vacation for his hard work. No, no. Not a "Vacation", but just some time off.

Another sarnak comes to realize that it is important to keep a balance between the Aviaks, Gorowynians, and the Throms who inhabit the mountains, because they all hold a part of the balance of the ecosystem.

Even that story was told only through the perspective of the author.

Good point Cusa. I admit, when I read the part about "the world that would be ours one day", it made no sense to me compared with what my little defiler had been learning in the course of completing her tasks. Now if only they'd give us a way to get citizenship there without going through Freeport, my necro might actually give up exile...

Dunno if this helps you, but the palace area of Chardok (home of the Di'Zok) is full of Goroynian sarnaks. PC sarnaks are KoS to these even though most have the name Gorowyn xx. If I was to take a guess it would be that a sect of Gorowyn sarnak have control of the Di'Zok.

So they both may be using the same name, one as a city name, the other as a title.Somebody tell me if I'm way off here.

For your wood elf, yes, he/she could be kelethin born before the war of the fey. If you go to willow wood, there is a lady who sits in the graveyard there. She will tell you all about her experience fleeing kelethin and the fate of her dear sister.

Apparently, he lead an uprising against the Di'Zok. Though the uprising failed, he was immortalized in the city's name in remembrance of his daring.

There's still a minority elf population in Kelethin even though the Fae have mostly taken over.Powers &8^]
