i am going to be buying a brand new dell....but they have changed the processors up on me since i last customized a pc on their site!which one would be more ideal for eq2...interl core 2 q6600 quad core 8mb L2 chace 2.4 Ghz, 1066 FSB or....intel core 2 duo processor E8500 mb L2 chache 3.16 Ghz 1333 FSBI am really confused. the quad seems nice but 2.4 Ghz is what I am running now and it is horrible for eq2. plus doesn't eq2 not even use more than one core?please help!also, is the e8500 a downgrade from the q6600?

hmm... my fiance's machine has an AMD 2.4 dual core in it and it screams with EQ2. Has a Nvidia 7900GTX in it and runs pretty much every thing max settingds except shadows which are just not worth having turned on. Not sure why your's is so bad... Intel maybe?

As for which to get? I'd say go with more raw horse power. get the E8500. 4xCore wont do you beans worth of good with EQ2.

No, Eq2 doesn't support multicore procs.

I am really kind of lost. Would the e8500 be equal in processing power?I run a 2.4 ghz pentium 4, would the 6600 be just as powerful as that with eq2?

Don't buy quad pc for EQ2. I made mistake when I bought new system.

My old pc was pentium 4, 3ghz, 2gig ram, nvidia 6600gt and played at balanced.

New pc quad core 2.4, 4gig ram, nvidia 8800gtx and still playing balanced or high quality when in quiet area.

Unless soe will make any proper improvments to support multiple cores, there is no point in geting quad core.

And I'm really p.... off, because wasted money on vid card.

P.S. there is no need to say that eq2 supports multiple cores up to some point (rofl). When I played 'The Witcher' (Bioware Aurora 2007 engine), that game used all 4 cores. And I played at max settings with all possible aa's and similar stuff turned on at max. When monitoring cores, all 4 were showing equal amounts of usage.

Personally I would go with the dual core e8500. EQ will run better with the higher clock speed of a single core. And unless your doing some really cpu intense stuff the dual core would be plenty. I built a new pc not to long ago and went with e6850 dual core, runs at 3.0g and I overclocked to 3.6g easily. Does everything tons better than my old single core athlon 2800+. And you can see in performance monitor when eq is running that only one core is maxxed out, other around 25% doing other stuff. Some other games max both cores, but I still saw no need for quad core yet. My .02....
