Chardok is a death trap. I have been there alot now and have only made it into he Library Building once. It has gotten so bad that I now carry a bunch of reair kits to keep me and others unbroken. It's horrible.

Last night we had to go intot a building to get the red key and wiped every time. And this wasn't a group of noobs, other than myself...lol....these were vets from the guild. It turns out we realized that there was a harvestable thing which dopes the drink of the mobs that kept coming to us. But other than them, with things falling from the sky and respwns, this place is insane! Anyone else noticed the same thing? Lets hear horror stories.

I wouldn't go to deep chardok with anything less than a x2 raid and 3 or 4 healers. Had no problem dropping down to one group for the named and killed the queen with no problem with one group. Dealing with the repop and adds is nearly impossible without a raid though. On our way back to library after killing the queen even the x2 wiped and have not been back there since.

Chardok can be nasty but I think a raid is a bit excessive - unless the place is full of Qs....

I keep suggesting that we take a 2 group raid to get through to the library area, but as of yet, it has been met with resistance.

The books in the library need to be pet pulled I think before you go in and get the mobs, at least thats how we did it the one time I had luck gettin there. hehe

The other killing zone, I just experienced last nght was Maidens. Jeez, couldn't get our group past the first named. I wasn't tank on that. BUt I was amazed at how hard it was. We didnt have a chanter though, which we would of needed for the rest of the zone, but you don't rewally need one for the first mob. We have a group of all 80's...me, 2 wizzies, conj, SK (tank), Troub, Defilier...so it was presumably a good dps group and me as off tank, which I did once when the tank wiped. But we never killed the thing. Anyway....

Chardok is a beast and until I can get those other stones, I am dead in the water on the epic. I need 2 more.

I've been down to the bottom of the library twice with just a group. The 2nd time I tanked it. Not sure why a raid is needed. As for those books, they don't need to be pet pulled. You can shuriken pull them without a) social aggro'ing the other books or b) pulling the aggro mob. Just don't get too close to the room so you don't proximity aggro that guy in the middle. The books don't actually social aggro it's just that the middle mob guy calls them out to help him.You do have to move fast to clear each of those bottom rooms before you get repops. But we managed it just fine even with waiting a short time on a LD to return.

We had success in the Library just range pulling the books first, cleared them one by one, and then body pulled the aggro guys. Once we had that down, the Library area itself was quite easy.

Now, actually getting everyone TO the Library....that was a whole different story.

A raid may not be needed if it's done right with an optimal group. But a raid to "break in" certainly helps -- especially when you have a couple partial groups of odd, overlapping classes because of multiple people needing the same updates.

The other funny thing about Chardok are the players solo who want to follow you through to get updates...lol. I am sure i will be one of them soon.

I am at the point that I absolutely HATE chardok. Not really because of the difficulty of the zone, but because I have been in there so much since epics went live. Went in there for my own epic stuff, and now I'm back in there at least 3 times a week helping other people in my guild. I know chardok like the back of my hand.

As for the difficulty of the zone...

I was just in chardok tonight. A warden and two necro's wanted some help getting their epic updates in chardok. Here was our group make up. Bruiser, defiler, warden, necro, necro, coercer. Yup, I was the tank. To heck with fighting down to the Chardok Palace. I just ran the group thru everything flopping my way down. Died a couple times due to "you have fallen to the ground" ([Removed for Content] SOE and their "97% success rate" on FD...97% my BEEEEEHIND!). but made it down, nonetheless.

Kill a bunch of arch mages that the warden needs. She never got her update after killing about 10 or so arch mages. Decided to work our way to the Queen. We get there, and of course, the Queen nor her PH are up. So the necros didn't get their update.

I've had my epic since the 4th day after epics went live, so at least we didn't have to go into the library. I have nightmares about flying books now.

But anyway, if you're patient and know how to dungeon crawl, you can work yourself through chardok fairly easily. Just kill and move. Don't stay in one spot, you're sure to get respawns.

Went into Chardok two weeks ago with one healer, no crowd control and an extra bruiser tagging along and it was rough. One mistake puts you back so far on the crawl, on top of that you have pvp to deal with on Venekor. The worst was we got into the library and an add got us with only two stones to go, had to revive and start all over. Just take a coercer and a pair of healers and you should have a much easier time with the palace section.

~Raithan

IS the bennie that you have less members to draw agro?

I hate Chardok, I've had multiple groups trying to get past the red gate, but with painful results. I mostly bring my Mystic through there, and in all the times I've gone through there, only one group has gotten well past the red gate (ironically, it was a PUG, compared to all the guildy groups I've gone in there with for epic updates).

One time, for getting the ranger epic and a couple other people's updates, we took a 2-group raid and still wiped a couple times. I ended up having to leave because it was late. The ranger ended up getting his epic, but from what I gathered, it was a long and painful night.

For those who haven't discovered this already, there is a hard way to get the key to the red gate and an easy way. The problem is that there is one mob that roams in and out of the barracks in question who respawns immediately after he is killed. If you attempt to clear straight thru the barracks to the gatekeeper mob who drops the key you will have to kill that roamer about 20 times, in addition to clearing every mob in the barracks on your way.

What you need to do is drop down into the water from the bridge inside the barracks rather than standing in the roamer's respawn path and clearing everything. The golems in the water below don't see invis, so I suggest invising your group, then dropping down. If you stand in the middle of the pool below you can single pull the gatekeeper and kill him without having to clear anything.

Btw, with invis+fd you can train a group around inside chardok all the way to the palace entrance without having to kill a single mob (hug the left cliff walls most of the way to avoid assassin drops), assuming you have the inner sokokar post already. Takes me about 5-10 minutes to get a group from zone in to the palace entrance this way. Once inside the palace you can flop upstairs solo to pickup the books you need to get to the library, which also saves time.

One other thing, which is not as good as this, but still worth mentioning, is that the roamer you are referring to, can be druged by picking up a harvestable something. You drop it in his water suppy and he stops roaming.

Well.. Since I've already gotten my epic.. I'll let you in on a few tips.FIRST-- ALL that is needed for Chardok Brusier epic is:: >2< Brusiers... Having Altrisium each (on each other) is VERY useful, but not required (but VERY VERY useful).Tip: The red gate. Jump up on the gate side (left side)..then onto its ledge..you can "peek" through and click the door thingie THROUGH a CRACK in the door..you do NOT need the key (and yes, I'm sure once they read this it'll be nerfed).. until then.. have fun... So thus, only the BLUE key is needed. -- Coz

First time I ever did Chardok was with a monk tanking. That was before epics were in and we just did the zone for fun.Last time I went in, the group was Brigand, Illusionist, Templar, Warden, Conjuror, Warlock...that's right, we did Chardok with a warlock tanking!Well, actually at the start of every fight the brig was tanking but the warlock tanked part of almost every fight. We died a bunch of times but not so much that our armor fell off. The brig had FD and with the warden's rebirth we never had a wipe reset us. We got the Queen for the warlock's update and killed a couple other names too.Chardok is hard but it's not THAT bad. You certainly don't need a raid.

BUt was wondering if the others in ur group picked up mobs too. I've been thru chardok so much that I know most of the "safe" spots. If you'd like step by step instructions of how to get to chardok palace by training a group, i guess i could give that.

1. Zone into chardok, take the sokokar.

2. Run along the right side of the big hole in the ground to the blue gate, go thru. Train up the steps and just to the outside of the door of that building. That is a safe spot, the mobs inside don't agro out the door. And the mobs outside don't agro up to the door.

3. Run thru the building to the other side and FD just outside that door. ***NOTE: If the named is up in this building and you don't want to stop to kill it, either pop close mind to run thru or keep your finger/cursor on tenacity. The named (and i think his PH does as well) does cast a stun/mez.***

4. Once out that door on the other side of the building. Train thru the open gate on other side of that building. FD just on the other side. There are roamers that come pretty close to that open gate, but if you aren't too far in, they won't agro.

5. Get as much runspeed as possible next (sow/chokidai totems + jboots) and follow the left side of the wall and run all the way to the red gate. FD right ON the red gate, make sure you've told your group to run right behind you and stopping right ON the red gate. you can stand up here and not agro the mobs near the gate. Open the red gate and go thru, but stay just on the other side of the gate as there are assassins that jump down from the wall.

6. Make sure your close mind and stone deaf are up. Click them up and run thru the very CENTER of the way to the bridge. The golems that are on either side of the path leading to the bridge each cast a knockback/nuke that does about 8k dmg. If you stay in the center, you won't agro them. Since you've got your close mind up, keep running all the way across the bridge and don't stop. Keep your finger/cursor on ignore agony, run thru the mobs on the other side of the bridge and get to the first set of pillars you come to and FD right in the middle of them. This is the next safe spot. Incidentally, this is a spot where a named encounter/ring event spawns. He drops some nice loot as well as masters. If you decide to kill him, make sure you pull him after the "no loot" icon is off his name.

7. Facing the opposite direction of the bridge you just came from, on the right side wall on the other side of the golems you are facing is a doorway that goes into a hall. Train your group thru that door. take a left thru that door and go around the corner. As soon as you go around the corner, there will be a doorway on the right side. Go inside this doorway and FD in that foyer like area just between the hall and the first room of the chardok palace. This is another safe spot. Roamers won't agro you from here.

That's pretty much all there is to FDing thru chardok to get to the palace. Once you are in that foyer, depending on where you are headed your group can just fight the rest of the way. If you are going to the library and don't have all 3 encyclopedia volumes, then you will need to kill the mobs in the rooms upstairs to get to the harvestable books until someone in your group has all 3 volumes. (It is best for more than one person to get all 3 volumes, in case you wipe, you won't have to stop by and collect books again on your way back.) Once you got all 3 volumes, clear down the steps and into the hallway to the first switch room. Sometimes a name spawns in here (adjutant is PH). If the named is up, he does have an AE stifle, best to clear the room first, then have your tank fight him max heal range from your healers. The switch is behind the named/adjutant spawn. This opens up a hidden door to the right. Go thru it, just on the other side of this hidden door is the safe spot. Don't move up too far, or you will agro the roamers. Once the entire group is thru, you can kill the two roamers. You will see the npc golem on the right side of that hallway.

If you are going to the library, one of the persons in yoru group with all 3 volumes hails the golem. Follow him thru the door he opens. He will open a total of 2 doors, so it is imperative that you stay with him. There is a roamer in the hall, so kill it quick. The golem does walk quite slow, you will usually have time to kill the roamer. But if you feel that you won't have time, bring the roamer with you thru the next door. There will be another roamer here as well. But you can take your time killing that one, as the golem doesn't open any more doors for you. Now you are in the library.

If you are going to clear the library. You will see that there are some dizok as well as some flying books. The flying books appear to be non agro. They aren't agro unless something else in that room agro's you. We found it best to pet-pull the books out of the room first. Once you kill all the books in the room you can then start pulling the dizok out to kill them. you can't pet-pull the dizok if the books are in the room, all the books will agro if any of the dizok agro anything. But they won't agro each other if pet pulled and the dizok don't agro the books when the books are pet pulled. Once you cleared that first room, you'll see some steps leading down to the right. there are a couple of dizok mobs in here, kill them. You come to another room, more books and dizok. Clear it the same as you did the first room. There is a stone update for epic in this second room. Once you done this, you will see this clickable book going up and down the wall. Click it, and it opens a hidden door. Go thru this door, but be carefule. There is a stagnant spawn mob here as well as a roamer. Kill the roamer first. Then the stagnant spawn. there is another mob at the bottom of the steps. Kill it. At the bottom of the steps, you see rooms to the left and right that are just like the first two rooms. Kill the mobs outside those rooms first, then pull the rooms just like you did the first. There are stone tablets for epic updates in those two rooms as well. (3 of 4 of the stone tablets are in the library.) The library also has updates for brigand and dirge epics as well. Not sure of any other epics though.

If you aren't going to the library, but instead working your way to the Queen. Then don't bother with the npc golem. Just clear those roaming mobs, and then go down the hall. This brings you to another room where there is one roaming mob, he has a "guild" name under his. Either named or ph, wait for him to path to the other side of the room, move in right side, kill the mob standing there. Move up along the wall to the other side. Killing another two mobs. You can kill this roamer if you like, he is a beast though. The dizok that is on the wall in the middle of that other side is in front of the switch. You'll need to clear him to activate the switch. Once you have, go thru the hidden door that opens on the right side. Same as before, safe area just inside that hidden door. There is a stagnant mob in here as well as a roamer. Wait for the roamer to path away, pull the stagnant mob. Kill it. then the roamer. Then any other mobs in the way. you will come to a 4-way intersection. Straight way goes to the golem room where the 4th stone tablet for epic is at. If you go that way, clear your wy down. Kill the dizok that is on either side of the doorway inside the golem room. then kill the golem.

If you want to go to the queen. If coming from the hidden door to the 4-way, you will take a left. Go inside and to either the right or left side on the wall. Clear your way down. Once you have cleared down to the very end. This is where the queen spawns. There are 3 mobs that are kneeling on the outside of her throne. You can get them single by body pulling them. Kill them first and then kill the queen. She does have a ph, and sometimes neither she nor her ph are up.

Anyway, that concludes my lesson on training thru chardok. Any questions? ;p

This assumes that they do not cast anything on the bruiser, including any prior buffs that chain hate back to the original caster. This can be trickier to do than it sounds, since almost nobody in eq2 fully realizes which of their buffs chain hate and which do not (drop the bruiser from group before the train if necessary). The other thing to watch out for is that none of the other people have any auto-procs up (buffs or equipment) that might go off if they inadvertently get AE'd by the mobs pounding on the bruiser during the train. Of course, the last thing to watch out for is to make sure everyone is BEHIND the bruiser, and not zerging out in front of him or to the sides like noobs (have people use auto-follow if possible, and make sure everyone is sprinting if the bruiser is too).

If you do it right, then the bruiser is the only one with an "X" by his name during the train, indicating that he is in combat. Once he FDs, the mobs will all go home since the bruiser was the only one on their hate list. The same is true if the bruiser dies (e.g. FD fails).
