hi, im a new player of EQ2, just started yesterday and i have a lvl 8 SK.

first of all, i just wanted to say how glad i am with teh people in this forums, and in this game, u guys rock =D

well, my question is this: im starting this game with my brother, and we want to play together. We as a team, want to be able to do well both in groups or soloing together.

im gonna play a SK, and he is still looking for a class to play. I want to know wich is a good class to duo with SK. I was thinking maybe a healer of some kind, but my brother likes to be independent, do it needs to be an offensive class, maybe an offensive healer, i dunno. Hes thinking about playing an Assassin, but we dont think taht it would be a good combo.

thx in advance, cya

pretty much any healer can be offensive if they want to. inquisitor and fury and warden are all 3 pretty good. warden and inquis both have melee specs that let them use spells as combat arts instead. fury has a decent set of nukes, str/dps proc buff, ports, and stealth, as well as a very nice int buff your SK would enjoy very much. i have seen a mystic/sk duo do pretty well too, but my experience with shamen is limited so i'll let someone else comment on them. if he is looking to play a non-healer, any mage will have their benefits and damage. an assassin would get things dead pretty quick, he just has to play carefully to not pull aggro as you can heal yourself pretty good, not so much other people.

Most of the healers can now be speced offensive via achievments. Fury has always been offensive, Inqui, Mystic and Warden can choose achievemnts that turns their nukes into melee-skills and can fairly good solo with that. Worst choice for soloing as healer is Defiler and Templer.

I big question is how important utility is for you. Warden and Fury both get these nice Portal Spells. Warden can upgrade his Runspeed Buff to 45%, Mystic can upgrade it to 40% i think. Warden gets Evac, Fury group invis. Only poor Inqui gets nothing Ok .. i forgot he can call you back to town .. but thats it.

If your brother has no interest in a healer class he could also check out necromancer. They duo very well with SKs. You MIGHT not be able to take some of the hardest mobs that the sk/healer duo would but by and large you will mow mobs down without troubles. A necro would have spot heals to help keep you up plus solid dps to make the mob go away fast.

Inquis have decent utility, just not travel utility...and much of it is tied to combat (debuffs, huge temporary buffs, root/daze, Fear, Stun, interrupts/knockdowns attached to mulitple abilities, self negative effect purge, additional shield block to tank, etc etc etc).

Inquis outside of combat utility is more minimal though for sure...pacify aggro mobs to slip by them unnoticed and send people home.

I've duo'd a good amount with my SK....and tons of combo's work really well.

There are a ton of choices that you can do here.

If you can handle having one person being a healer, you'll probably get farther only because with a tank and a healer, you have the start of a complete group, and it will be a lot easier to get groups of 6 together for instances with the two "required" classes already.

There are a lot of discussions in the boards about who is the best duo partner though, so just do a search for keywords sk and duo and you'll get a large listing.

In my opinion the best duo priest partners are the three that get the melee spec AA option (Mystic, Inq and Warden). The melee spec converts damage spells to combat arts. So they are very fast casting compared to regular dots and nukes. This makes it easy for a healer in a duo to crank out DPS but keep up with the healing. Another bonus is that the Mystic and Inq can use AAs to get 100% critical melee hits. The Warden only gets 70% but has a double attack AA to make up for it. 100% critical hits applies to all the converted combat arts, which are upgraded naturally as you level up, so every melee hit and every damage "spell" is a critical hit... A melee speced priest with a hard hitting long delay weapon and some strength gear on is quite fun to play.

I play a mystic so will say more about them. Mystics buff melee stats -- Str, Agility, and Stamina (with AA, haste and Int). They can also debuff the snot out of a mob. They don't have as much utility in terms of travel but their utility to groups and raids is pretty great.

Mystics also debuff vs disease and the SK does. . . disease.

Inquisitors have wonderful buffs that complement the SK nicely.

Furies have a great INT buff plus a nice melee proc.

Wardens, Defilers, and Templars wouldn't be bad either (as others have said, any healer will be fine) but I think the 3 listed above are the best complementary healers to he SK. Personally I'd take the Fury 1st (both SK's and Furies do pretty wicked AE damage, plus the buffs from the Fury complement the SK's hybrid nature as both a melee and a caster class -- and did I mention portals?), then the Inquisitor 2nd (hp + dps buffs, hate increasers, nice debuffs vs ALL damage types, ability to make mobs miss more often and the Verdict spell "kill button" is very useful vs heroic content in a duo as well. Plus with Battle Cleric does great damage and if he gets aggro has the same if not better mitigation than the SK, so won't be falling down very fast. . . ), and the Mystic 3rd. Why? No particular reason other than one of the 3 has to be 3rd The mystic would totally rock, just like the other 2 would.
