Seeing the new commission system and the epic quest lines with the no-trade items has given me and idea of which I think is worth considering.

The mechanics of the crafting system cause a few issues that might be able to be resolved. First, commissioning is great but requires that both parties be present which can become tricky even more so with players from different timezones. Another problem is that lower level toons can not travel well and may not have faction to work in neutral areas like RoK. Additionally, crafting for one side of the alliance (good/misunderstood) limits an artisan. Lastly, many crafters grind through levels and flood the market with gear and other craftables aimlessly.

I propose we tear down the walls and make the system a bit more easier to navigate, to make crafting more fluid, and much easier to find someone to get your items crafted. I propose the introduction of a "commission broker". The actual name is not important. For the person hopelessly looking for that T3 mastercrafted cloth belt day in and day out without finding one and for the crafter that missing work orders from players who just logged off, this would be the system to support those needs.

The "commission broker" system:

Player A - wants an item craftedPlayer B - is a crafting who just logged on who is looking for work

Player A speaks with the commission broker and navigates the existing items that can be crafted; a recipe search if you will. She finds the item she wants and looks at the required components. She collects or purchases the raw material and begins submitting a work request. She places an order for 1 item and submits what she is willing to provide to get it made. In this example, she provides all the material except fuel but she adds 5G and sets a "needed by" date of Friday.

Player B speaks with the commission broker but instead of placing an order he decides to browse the orders that are for his artisan class and at or below his level (those items he can craft). He finds the order request by player A and decides that the material and money are acceptable in exchange for him to craft the item. He accepts the work and goes to the station to craft. The materials provided in the request are consumed, money transferred, and the item mailed to Player A.

If the order hadn't been completed by Friday it is cancelled and all items mailed back to player A.

Potential upside - Players do not have to wait around for crafters to log on. Players can now craft items for themselves like the epic NO-TRADE or tinkered items. Many crafted items can become LORE or NO-TRADE like the earring drops in the game. Crafted items can become "better" without the fear of them flooding the market (make them NO-TRADE). SOE will have more flexibility with the rarity of crafted items.

Hopefully this will spark other ideas for which the new commission system can serve or this idea be implemented directly.

Nrumba, Guk
