Count me among the various vista user woes...

I have a new machine with Vista 32. Installed EQ2 last night. I did make sure before installing it though that all my drivers were up-to-date. So i know that was ok. When i logged in, of course i get the small pop-up box stating i need to get the additional patch from MS. So i logged out and installed it as well, rebooted and logged back into game. I immediately set about making all of the graphics tweaks and so forth. Getting to sounds, i noticed that none of my EAX options were there. Before i patched though, they were available in the settings dialogue box (the separate window you can adjust your settings in that has the graphic of Lucan DLere on the first tab). Finding that odd, i logged out to check the other settings box to see if they were there like they had been prior.

Nope. Gone.

Any ideas why the patch might have killed the sound settings? It's as if EQ2 just doesn't realize i have the card at all. I am using the Creative Labs Fatal1ty Pro card.

Would like to note that the EAX settings are available in other games i have on my machine. It's only EQ2 that is not showing the options.

Steps i have taken so far:

1. Deleted all of the .ini files like "recent", etc.2. Ran a complete scan to check for any missing or corrupt files. The only things that were replaced were the .ini files i deleted.3. Uninstalled and reinstalled sound drivers.

Just odd that every other game installed has no issues with the EAX settings. Not blaming any devs, EQ2, or SOE for this as i know it didn't happen until after the patch but it's only EQ2 that is affected. I've done everything i can think of as well as what i have read on this forum (except reinstall EQ2... /shudder). I'd really like to avoind having to reinstall... and patch (ugh) if i can.

Thanks!

i may be wrong but i remeber some where that vista itself does not support eax any more....if you go to the creative website i think there is a patch for vista computers that will let eax work again with eax enabled games.

ill try to find the info at creative and post back again.

http://apcmag.com/5168/creative_puts_eax_back_into_vista

just found this on a google search.

just do a search like..."creative eax and vista" without the quotes,i came up with a bunch of stuff with that search.

Vista and EAX don't play well together....

Download ALchemy from Creative and you'll get back some EAX functionality.

i appreciate both of your comments and input. But please understand what i had initially written... no other game has this issue. But something has caused my EQ2 to not see the soundcard hardware. I am not so quick to write it off as simply "microsoft's fault".

As for ALchemy, i have it... thats one of the many updates to the sound card. Also, regarding ALchemy, you have to set it up to work the different games. it isn't an automatic process that simply happens when you download and install it. Not as far as i have seen. i've had to plug in every game that i want working with it.

i wonder if it might be a registry issue. Thinking it over more and more and weighing what i have done so far and know, this seems likely...

/sigh

*The dreaded EQ2 Reinstall and Patch Process glares at you menacingly. This opponent is GODLIKE. It appears you have no hope of avoiding it.*

LOADING! Please wait...

just went to the creative website and looked it up....latest patch for alchemy which i think was jan 7 or 8th shows support for eq2....not sure when last you updated the driver but might be worth a look at.

this is 1 or the reasons i wont upgrade to vista ever unless they stop supporting xp...to many compatability problems

reinstalled EQ2 over-top what was already there. No real patch time necessary except to the station launcher. Seems to have been indeed a registry issue. logged in and all settings were there.

all good now!

I have the exact same problem and I only have PLAY selectabe from autolauncher....did you just run setup.exe?
