My first journey into tanking is a Sarnak Guardian. I ran him through the TD quests into BBM and decided to try the Dwarf boots HQ purely for the status points. I had my main 72 Fury harvest to get steel and a guildie fitted me out in full lvl 22 MC armor. My main donated to get my CAs up. So off I go.

The first issue is the Sentry at Ardent Needle. As an evil toon I can never stay long talking to Hwal since the sentry beats on me. That is one tuff 25^^^! I have soloed 25^^^ giants in TS and had Garanel to 10% (also 25^^^)solo before I died. At the end of the HQ I tried to fight the sentry and had to run with my 50% speed buff. That boy needs a full group!

I also had issues getting the gnoll L&L, 2 sentries there. I had to get a guildie to help with a 52 assassin to draw them out for me to get it.

When I took on Garanel as stated before my solo attempt was close but failed. I was 29 at that point. After asking for help I got a 25 Ranger that was just looking for nameds to help. We won but I was down to 2% health, Whew!

As a Guardian I'm doubting the usefulness of the Sarnaks fire breath in combat. It takes too long to cast. Even with sword and shield my autoattack can do about the same damage in the same casting time.

My toon is now 30 and I just picked up the master stances off the broker. I still need experience tanking with a full group. So if you want to take a chance to help a tank learn the art look up Scathaz D'Wyrm on Kithicor.

Good luck to all.

You are right, Scathaz, that the sentries a little underconned (too powerful for their level and arrows). That is very common with city guards, so I'm guessing that when these sentries were created they used the city guard stats.

As for your breath weapon, its primary benefit is that it affects more than one enemy. When you group with classes that are strong against multiple enemies, you'll want every tool you can get to try to keep aggro off the adds. When you get Reinforcements, it will add hate to all of your attacks, making your breath weapon a decent AE hate-control tool. You can even wait until you've used all your other CAs and are waiting for them to respawn, because that is about the time the warlocks pull the adds off you anyway.

Good luck in your guardianing career!
