View Full Version : EQ2 Launches, then quickly restarts my computer.
Hey all. Recently resubscribed and played for a few days. I tried to log in yesterday and recieved a "Cannot create D3D device".I figure.. alright ill check the boards try some stuff then reinstall. After i reinstalled i got a different error "D3DERR_UNAVAILABLE". I updated my Via chipset and my ATI graphics card driver. Success!!.. I can now get in the game without a terimanal error. I figure all is well until i get in the game and my computer restarts.So.. i can log in, get through loading.. then my computer will restart after approximately 4 minutes. It happens every time. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />" />I go on live chat and was told to update my directx 9.0c with the august update or w/e. After i did that i restart and figure all will be ok.. until it restarts again just as usual.I was able to play a few days ago, but now it just won't budge. Anyone have any ideas?AMD Athlon Processor 3200+512mb ram (which i would upgrade, if regular DDR ram didn't cost so much)200gig storage.ATI VISIONTEK Xtasy Radeon 5500 with driver version - 2007Y6M13D

Are you crashing into a Blue screen error? If you're going straight to restart, you need to set your pc so you dont restart on a crash. It will give you an error message and you can jot down the numeric error code, plug that into google and it will show you if it's a video or memory issue.
No blue screen error. Nothing except my computer turning off then restarting. For instance, i will normally start the game. Get through the opening credits, load then once i get to the character selection the computer restarts. No error or anything at all.

To tunr it off, go to My Computer, right click and select Properties, then select the Advanced Tab, bottom box labeled Startup and Recovery, seelct teh Setting button then remove the click mark on Automaticly Restart in the System Failure box.</p><p>A DXdiag would help also, but will hazard a guess it is being caused by your sound card drivers being way out of date. This is just a guess until you can post the dxdaig and the text of the BSOD</p>

<p>I'm having the same problem. I was able to play fine on the 15th... then today, out of nowhere, I get the "unable to create D3D device" error. I contacted support and they had me update my graphics drivers. I also took the added precaution of updating my sounds drivers. I can get into the first loading screen now, then when the game says "loading UI resources" the computer reboots. Happens everytime... same thing is also happening when I try to play EQ1 or Vanguard, though at different places. I turned off the system recovery option that auto reboots on a crital error to see what the problem might be, and all I get is a solid blue screen. No numerical error codes. When I'm finally back in windows I get "Windows has recovered from a serious error" in a pop-up box. I tell it to send the error report and the Microsoft website says it's recieved a corrupted report indicative of a serious problem. I'm at a loss, and it's hard to swallow that I went from running great to not at all in just a couple of days.</p><p>***edit***</p><p>OP and I have similar system specs. And the only change made to my system between working fine and now was a Microsoft windows update on Saturday. Also, system restore function is affected by whatever is happening. Got fed up with the random reboots and decided to restore the system to an earlier point (last known time I played EQII without issue) and the computer went into an infinate reboot loop. Restarted Windows in safe mode and was able to undo the system restore and now I'm back where I started.</p><p>AMD Athlon 3200+ XP, MMX, 3D Now, ~2.2GHz, 1536MB Ram, proper DirectX 9.0c files, VISIONTEK Xtasy Radeon 9550, 128.0MB, updated to Catalyst 8.2 Drivers per customer service recommendation, Realtek 97AC Audio (drivers updated to 1/24/08 release).</p>

I agree with Tebos. Take a look at your power supply there's a good chance it's failing or is underpowered for your current usage.

<p>Eogris: You and I are having the same problems on nearly identical machines. I have an HP Pavilion machine, same graphics and sound cards. I have more RAM than you, and that's about the only difference. So, I'm finding it hard to believe, given the situation, that both of our power supplies decided to start dieing on the same day. I last played, without incident, on the 13th of this month. Then I tried to log in on the 18th and started getting the</p><p><verify> c:liveeq2frameworkcoredevicessrcDirectX9RenderDevi ce.cpp Unable to create D3D device for VISIONTEK Xtasy Radeon 9550</p><p>Error.</p><p>TSR agents at Sony had me updating every driver on my machine (graphics, sound, chip set) you name it. When I updated the Graphics driver to Catalyst 8.2 I was at least able to get the starting movie, RoK background, and the initial character zone-in screen. Then, just as my character is about to Rezz in the game, the stupid thing reboots.</p><p>Since I'm not the only one having this exact same problem at the exact same time I'm beginning to believe that the problem is on SOE's side and is related to the hotfix that was done on the 14th to correct terrain rendering and NCP spawn/placement problems.</p>
Good stuff greyquill, its nice to know im not alone. HP pavilion mx704 is what i have. Effie the thing is, i've always been able to play with my sound card and video card. Its just a recent problem. Your right, though, i should really upgrade my computer. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img mce_tsrc=" />" />I guess ill just have to wait for an update. Or just continue to play boring old WoW (which i certainly don't like to do)I have to play everquest 2.. i just can't stand the 12 year olds complaining about epic gear anymore <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img mce_tsrc=" />" />

To anyone experiencing a similar problem: Try getting the Catalyst 7.6 Driver instead of the 7.10 or 8.2. I'm not sure what was causing the instability, but this seemed to fix it.

I am having this same issue. I have tried the fixes listed, nothing is working. and I do not accept that this is a coincidental happening with the number of people that are being effected. I work with computers for a living. Also, the only program that this is impacting is EQ2, no other game that I play nor any of my graphic design software is being impacted. Also, if it were a power supply issue as some suggest, why would it allow me to get all the way to the character select screen before rebooting, logic would tell you that it would happen at random spots not the exact same point every time. Are there any suggestions from SOE that actually work?
Sad to say it, but it didn't fix itself. This is still a problem.. though the problem got stranger.I could not log into any character on the Fae expansion. Meaning i couldn't log into a character in gfay. But i could log into my paladin who was in the deep below. Until i tried zoning into The Cave. I then tried to log into my berserker who is at the queens colony. I was logged in for about 3 minutes before it restarted. Not sure what to do.. this is very annoyingI tried using catalyst 7.6 but it made me get the unrecoverable error messages again.I do infact have the BSOD, ill try to use what it said.

<p>This problem, and probably the system wide instability the solutions SOE gave me, caused many DirectX games on my machine to cease functioning, i.e. Everquest 1, Vanguard, even Oblivion and Morrowind. They would all just simply restart and always under the same circumstances (zoning into the game for Sony and rendering any outdoor zones for the Bethesda software). After reverting my Catalyst driver to v. 7.6 I was able to play Everquest 2 last night for about the 20 minutes it took to redo my UI and gameplay settings. I then drifted over to Oblivion and played for a couple of hours without incident. Now, I haven't played anything today, so it'll be nerve racking to see if the fix held together today. I'll let everyone know when I actually get home to test. FYI in addition to jacking around with the graphics drivers I did try everything SOE suggested to fix them problem. They had just been prompting me to use the wrong version of the software. I know the ATI website contains drivers and Control Centers going back to v7.1... have you tried any other versions of the software? Also, are you making sure that the Control Center and driver software installed are from the same release?</p>

Thanks for the info, I'll test that out tonight after work. If that doesn't work it's A full system reinstall for me.
When i updated to 7.6 i started getting an unrecoverable error.<img src="/eq2/images/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />" />Edit with BSoD info.Check to sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with many facturer for updates. Try changing video adapters.Check with your hardware vendor from any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as cacheing or shadowing. If you need to remove or disable component, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced start up options - select safe mode.Thats is in a nutshell, if im missing some important info let me know please <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />I'm basically posting this because im not exactly sure how to utilize this information on my own lol. I didnt even know what a BSoD was a day ago.
