Question on Portal wrt PvP

I'm on a PVP server and recently had something odd happen. Perhaps I just don't understand the nuances of "going into combat mode". I was harvesting in EL when I got jumped by a group. I was able to get my Portal off at the last second. At the docks, I noticed that I had been debuffed. So I started buffing up again, and that act put me into combat mode. What gives? I don't recall this type of behavior the many times I've used this spell in the past. TIA.

<p>Anytime you evac after getting hit, you have to wait for the "encounter" to break/time out.  If you have the original ui, you can see the crossed swords by your name. The swords are the indicator when it's safe to do something/cast something.</p><p>If you were to run, instead of evac out, you would still have the timer on you and be locked into combat.</p><p>Moral of the story is, no casting after attacks. At least for awhile.</p>

Very odd, in years of playing,  I've never had an encounter no break immediately when I evac'd. That's kind of the whole point of the spell.
