Hadden's Earring quest

Im stuck at this one part on hadden's earring quest where i got to search the northern ocean in the commonlands for an earring. i goto the spot with the wrecked ships underwater but the octopus thing thats supposed to spawn doesnt spawn. is this quest broken or something? or is there any way around this?

Did you swim around underwater at the designated loc? I noticed it was pretty small area that gave the update, and you have to swim underwater and very close by.This goes for the update in the Thundering Steppes as well.

There is a skeleton of a dragon down there.  I believe you have to swim through the ribcage to get the update.  May have to make a couple passes because like the last poster said it is a small area for the trigger.

Moongloom has the right of it. You have to swim north and west, off the map, through a dragon's ribcage to get the commonlands' update.
