Hi coercers!

I just couldnt stay away from eq2, and am back playing my coercer (im really rusty though):

36 kerra coercer, crap gear, and crap spells. Only have 3 AA's (i rolled him before KOS).

I solo mostly, and need help. I am trying to get access to feerott, which requires you to quest through Zek.

Some of the orcs in Zek are linked, and are ^, ^^, or ^^^ . (there are some v and no arrow orcs as well). My tactic currently is to just charm a ^, then send him in to attack a group of 1 or 2 ^'s. If i get two I mezz the other one, and wait for my pet to get some hate, then put syballant on the thing attacking my pet. Then i cast all the dots and the -resists spells, then proceed to stun/daze/stifle as much as possible while casting our DD spell. By this time im usually getting attacked and blink (the de-aggro) rarely wipes me off the top of the mobs hate list. I usually try to root and run away in hopes my charmed pet will aggro the ^.

This tactic is really inefficent and usuall leaves me with very low hp -- even when me and my pet are attacking a single blue ^.

While trying to get to the bottom of the Blood-Ore mine in zek, I came across a heroic ^^^, a heroic ^^, and a heroic ^, blocking my path. I tried to charm the ^^^ but it wouldnt let me. How the heck am I supposed to get by them?

Can you guys give me some pointers? Good solo tactics? I know i need better gear and masters, but I dont have time to gather/craft stuff so i dont have the money to buy better gear; i just use what I find.

thanks

First off Welcome Back! It is worth noting that you no longer need to complete access quests to get into overland zones. You can simply zone into Feerot from the mariners bell. Some instanced zones (like Cove of Decay) still require these.

The best thing you can do for yourself is get your charm spell upgraded to at least Adept III. Harvest in the same tier as your charm spell level for a bit until you get a rare soft metal (I think the one for the 30's is Palladium). Get a friendly sage to turn that into an Adept III and you're good to go. In the lower levels you can sometimes find a Master 1 version on the broker for a decent price (selling rares, the pricier harvestables like roots and ore and brokering all your loot will get you some cash fairly quickly). Your charm spell quality determines the quality of the spells and combat arts your pet will use so it's pretty vital to your solo survivability.

Next 5 AA's in Charm will greatly improve things as well. To catch up on this run around and knock out some quests (anything green or better is fine as long as you haven't completed it before), get some discovery xp from the new zones you've missed out on (Darklight Wood, Timorous Deep, Faydwer) and you should rack up a few in no time. Collections count as well if you like that option.

Since you say you're 36, if you bought RoK and have access to Faydwer I'd suggest hunting in Steamfont. I found the zone to be pretty fun, you can get a handy spell damage cloak there and lots of the quests are solo friendly. The mobs start at 35 so if you want to work your way up to it you could grind a bit in Butcherblock Mountains first. If not you should have access to Feerot, Zek and Enchanted Lands. EL is pretty good for harvesting with low agro by the docks, but be prepared for competition during peak times. There are also tons of quests you should be able to knock out without wandering too deep into the zone.

There is no access quest required anymore. You can go straight to Ferrot by using the bell at the end of the Dock in Thundering Steppes

Go to http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Coercer for a lot of information including what pets are good for each zone.

Hope this helps

EDIT: Get a Master I charm ASAP. You can use ANY master I till lvl 80. The ONLY diffrence between upgrades is charm duration, and Health/power regen for your pet. Whn your Charm is a Master I all your Pets spells are then Master I. You will see some nice nukes. High dmg by your pet will keep it's hate up and therefore off you.

-------------------------------------------------

The access quests are good experience, however soe removed the quest requirement. Suggest when you zone to Feerott give a try to the mobs on the beach, they aren't to hard and there is a quest giver on the beach with some good exp. and ach. exp. quests. Go through the tunnel and find the close camp with quest givers and grab all those quests. Use your invis. alnost everything will not see through it. A quest starter 'a tattered robe' drops random off feerott mobs. I got mine off the solo lizards near the quest camp along the zone wall. Quest reward is "Robe of the Invoker" a good lvl 40 robe for a coercer.

You should be able to get into that Zek mine without any problems. There are a couple named heroics in there but they are tucked in deadend tunnels. Get eq2 map, google search, open your map and all the quest givers and named mobs are on there. Even the eq2 developers said they use this map download.

It will be much harder for you with minium arnors, weapons and spells. You get more resists with low quality spells and do less damage. Soe made the heroics, especially the 3 up arrows hit like a mack truck to discourage soloers. Wearing low quality gear, you get beatdown hard and fights take 10 times longer.

It will be a big moneymaker for you if you would harvest, keep the rares to hire crafters to make you mastercrafted armor and adept 3 spells. You sell the extra harvests and shinies and make tons of golds!

Actually takes less time to gain experience if you have better gear and spells.

You best timesaver would be to get into a guild. Groups love coercers. Don't think you need more time to get into a guild. Get a guild with structured times to group up, like every Sat., Sun. Fri night and you will find you play less hours and get more done. You will have better gear and spells too because ALL the best gear comes from group mobs. Master spells drop frequently for groups.

The orcs in zek are mostly melee mobs, they hit extra hard. It's good to keep them rooted far away, if they run at you, can use your mez to give you time to back off and reroot. I don't use blink much, soe gives the mobs such melee range and blink NO range they still can hit you after you blink. On my coercer part of my strat is to also melee many mobs, I don't recomend doing that untill you get some coercer melee aa and good weapon/armors.

good luck!, Savant Cirque

thanks for all the input so far!

So it seems getting charm M1 is a something I need to do asap, but I dont see myself spending the time to harvest to get to T3 T4 rare materials -- That would take FOREVER! And harvesting is boring as hell. I love fighting! Thats why I play this game. I think I will be able to have fun and progress without M1s

Also thanks for that wikia page on what pets to use. I had seen that back in the day but forgot. I was also using the wikia eq2 solo progression timeline to choose where to go, and for 36 feerott looked like the best bet. I dont have RoK so Faydwer is out

So now my main question for all you seasoned coercers: let me in on your leet solo tactics So far I have heard (in this thread) That I should root, and blast the mob froma diference, and if he gets too close just mezz him and repeat. Anoter tactic I have heard is to get a pet and do /petranged and then root and do the same thing as above. Something I used to do back in the day: charm a heroic, get it to low health by having it fight something, intentionally let him lose the fight and un-charm him, then mezz the now low health heroic and charm the thing it was fighting, and kill the now lower health heroic. This tactic might not work now and takes forever to pull off, but its fun and risky

So other than the above things mentioned, what are some cool ways as a solo coerer to destroy mobs (solo mobs, linked, social, heroic, named, whatever)

You came back just in time. As of yesterday they nerfed Coercer pets so that they did half as much damage. Reroll a necro Coercer class is done as a viable soloer and we have joined trobs and dirges in the realm of helpless mana battery/buff bots.

I think for you the T8 mobs had such huge attack, hitpoints and stats they still made great charmed pets. Perhaps soe did something to T8 pets.

I don't have to reroll a necro,.I have a necro to play for those days the coercer dies 10 times and I don't feel like running to mendor
