Penitent Essence- Useless now?

I know the answer is somewhere in this forum, but a keyword search didn't reveal it- my apologies in advance for asking something already well documented.<div></div><div>I haven't played my Paladin in over a year.  I logged him in last week and started playing him again (level 40ish), and see that he has a couple of stacks of penitent essences.  I recall them being created by one spell, and used by another.  But when I look at the stack, the descriptive text says something along the lines of "this is no longer useful".</div><div></div><div>Is it correct to assume that there was a live update sometime in the past year that removed the use for these consumables?  If so, is it likewise safe to assume that they can be deleted?  </div><div></div><div>Thanks!</div>

I thought you meant the spell, and I was going to say that's not too far from the truth.  But the essences, yes, obsolete for perhaps two years.

for old times sake i keep a stack of them along with the wyrmsteel longsword, prismatic, and many other items in my house vault.  One of the best things they did was remove that component from our spell, there were many times i remember finding my bags full of the blasted things and not able to loot or roll for stuff....<img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

Thank you for the replies!  Now I know I can safely toss those darn inventory fillers away <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /><div></div><div>I recall my early experiences with my Paladin thinking "these essence things are a pain in the neck: I hope they get rid of them".  How often is it that something like that actually becomes reality?  Huzzah and so forth for Sony!</div><div></div><div></div>
