Welcome and glad to have you.

I too played EQ1 and have some fond memories. I think you will find EQ2 to be quite different in mostly pleasing ways.

I have not played a lot of servers, but I believe upon character creation, it lists the servers and if the are high, low population etc...I am not sure how accurate that description is however.

I am on Oasis and have met mostly friendly people. I have played since December of 2006 and can count on one hand how many I have on my ignore list. As for guilds, I think you will find that unless they are a raiding guild, most will take a low level player. I have experienced mostly pretty casual guilds who will help when needed and say grats when you ding.

I am sure there are similar ones out on other servers.

So, good luck to you and hope to see you around the boards.

Do your self a favor and pick a server on the bottom of the list so you have a higher population.

By the way, don't let the class selection screen fool you - Assassins are NOT rogues. They are Predators, just like Rangers (Rangers are good, Assassins are evil).A Swashbuckler is a Good rogue, and a Brigand is an Evil one. I currently have a level 64 Swash, and I love him... Achievement lines make him an excellent soloer, and he has pretty nice DPS for groups as well. You're probably confused by that, so let me just tell you: A long, long time ago, the class system was different. Starting out, you picked an Archetype (Fighter, Priest, Mage, Scout), and at level 10, depending on your archetype, you chose a Class (Example: Scout chose between Rogue, Predator, and Bard). Then, at level 20, you picked a Subclass. For most classes, your subclass was determined by whether you were Good or Evil, but there are some neutral classes (Ex: Good rogue is a Swash, evil rogue is a Brigand, Good AND evil Bards could choose between Troubadour or Dirge). And then... SoE finally realized how annoying it was to not be able to truly play your class until 20+, and scrapped it for the EQ1 choose-class-at-creation system.

Antonia Bayle is a very good server especially if you like to RP. It always has friendly people around all levels.

Welcome to EQ2, if you are ever on AB look me up names Belegost. I would be glad to adventure with ya.

We're uber casual and don't raid, but we are newbie friendly, alt friendly, chatty, and a small tight knit guild. Happy Everquesting and good luck on finding the right guild for you.
