I'm pretty deep into eq2 now, and am a vet of EQOA. I am always impressed by the visuals and landscape of both games (tho I did enjoy the seamless zones in eqoa), but have come to realize I don't know much about the world I'm in.

Where does EQ lore come from? Is there a definite source or story besides the game? Like a book? Where's a good place to start?

Also I'd like to know if these places exist in eq2:

Darvar Manor

That cave that goes through the mountains in EQOA

Munial's tea garden.

TY

If it doesn't come directly from the game, then it comes from the developers on these boards. if it's not from either of those two, then it's from the Pen & Paper game, which covers many elements that should be taken with a grain of salt until confirmed in the game itself or by the developers.

EQ2's Norrath is 500 years into the future of the EQlive Norrath. EQOA's Norrath has too many areas that arn't acknowledged to exist in either EQlive or EQ2, so most of it is just ignored.

There are still EQOA references in EQ2 though. Telethin the cat in Willowwood, the Springview Healers of Bertoxxulous in the Commonlands, and a select few others. No geographic locations though.

But the game took place 500 years before EQ.

That's a drag....I really loved places like fayspires, with the kelethin woods right across from it. That's another thing I don't get, why is everything seamed in eq2? Was it that way in EQ1? In Eqoa you could walk anywhere without having to load a new zone. The only time you had to load is when you coached.

My guess is that the framework was laid before seamless world technology had become prominent. As I recall, WoW was the first game to use it with much success.Another possibility, though it gives the devs an inordinate benefit of doubt, is that it was done to reinforce the "shattered" nature of the world.

Because EQ laid the foundation, all the areas in EQOA were mostly ret-conned into the game world for the sake of giving content to the game. This didn't mean that EQlive suddenly had to acknowledge thier existances. Some references made it into the game, some didn't. The developers stated that some of the epic quests released next week will have references to EQOA's epic weapons.
