Okay i'm sure this question gets asked every so often but i'd like opinions based on the state of the game now, not in mid 2006/early 07 as the search engine provides. I have an erudite shadowknight and haven't yet decided on a tradeskill, I have a bruiser with alchemy already to make spells for me so that eliminates the obvious choice. Basically i'm interested in doing as much damage as possible via having as high of INT and casting stats as possible, hence my race choice.. so which tradeskill do you think would benefit me?

Armorer? or is it all tanking gear and nothing with casting stats?

Weaponsmith? is it worth slaving over a forge for 1 item slot that can be upgraded by quests 70+? i'm thinking no..

Provisioner maybe? since consumables are always needed.. though i'd feel like a wimp cooking in full plate..

Jeweler? I'm not sure on this one..being able to make scout AD3 might be useful for the future.. but for making jewelery itself, Is there decent INT/spell damage/crit jewelery to be crafted or is it all generic stat items that get replaced by RoK quested stuff later?

Woodworker? I have a woodworker at level 30ish already that I could level with vitality so i'm thinking no.. and Carpenter seems useless unless you're into home decoration, which i'm not.

That basically leaves Armorer, Provisioner, Jeweler.. any input?

I would go with Armourer... the MC stuff has some Int and Str stuff together, plus if you have a scout that you play too you can fit them with some MC stuff. Right now I've got a full suit of Feysteel that my armourer created and it's got decent attributes and resists with pretty good mit.

Firstly you'll want to bear in mind that everything, be it quested or crafted, gets replaced by something else later in the game... until you hit 80 at least. Holding out with sub-par gear just because you know you'll just find something better "70+" or whatever will just cut down on the fun in the interim. Now, that aside...

Since you seem to want to go for a casting heavy tank making your own Jewelry would help. You would have better means of tweaking your stats to fit your goals. If you intend to do so and save cash you're going to need to harvest... a LOT. You'll be needing rare loams for your Combat Arts, Rare stone/soft metals for jewelry, and rare metals for Armor, Shields and some jewelry (symbols I think).

Assuming you're ok with harvesting a lot Armorer would be another obvious choice. Leveling an armorer (or any outfitter really) gets pricey unless you harvest your own ore and roots... especially the rares. If you're the impatient sort you'll probably be better off making cash elsewhere and buying gear from a friendly crafter. Even if you still harvest for rares the raw ore and roots will sell for a decent price on the broker to fund your other expenses. Also, Timorous Deep quest/loot drops are excellent for their level so you could probably get by without needing a MC set of armor until 32.

I wouldn't bother with provisioning unless you're doing it either for the joy of crafting or specifically to make money. It would involve finding a steady supply of roots and a lot of grinding at only 2 items per combine. Weapon smiths are just as expensive to level as armorers, but from what I understand it's a pain to level and the demand for your product drops off in upper tiers so you'll have less opportunity to recoup your losses. I'd venture to guess that your time and resources would be more efficiently spent purchasing/questing for weapons. (Armorer = 8 peices per tier needed ; Weaponsmith = 1 (or 2) pieces per tier needed).
