View Full Version : Pally Advice! SK Player.
I've heard alot of bad things about a Pally. But I don't like to listen to people. Most people just play a class and they suck at it or don't spec right and claim that it's a bad class. I, however, want to start up a pally. I've alway's loved the pallies heal abilities. So anyway, down to the point. What line should I do first? STR, STA, or INT? Like the SK, will most of my attacks be spells? Does the pally INT line have the spell crits like the SK has? And tips appreciated thanks

int, yes, yes, You'll want to get wrath and hero lines from the paladin tab after you fill out the crusader abilities for damage to level up.You'll do fine. It will be fairly similar, but probably harder at first, since you are used to the SK. Lower damage, better agro. For achievements, all the "crusader" line abilities will be exactly the same. The "paladin" line will be different.Wait, I thought you said will most of my attacks be AE's. You said will they mostly be spells. They'll be heavy on the spell side, but a high-end weapon can even that out a bit.

I just betrayed my sk to a pally and I really can't get used to the direct heals over the lifetaps... My pally is taking a ton of solo damage, I feel casting healing spells is taking away from dps.. I don't know why you want a pally for heals.. if it isn't for amends and agro control, you probably won't enjoy a pally over a sk. The heals are kinda weak and the 1.82 secs or 2 seconds to cast + power costs etc really muck up your dps.. I regret betraying tbh.. But amends and sigil is pretty sickening for agro control... Its the only reason Im not going back to sk.. Plus the faction grind Id rather not do again.. How would I fix pallies.. instant cast heal over times.. Theres just way too much micro management of direct heals/ward for my liking.. I betrayed him at 72 and soloed to 78 this morning on him.. The heals vs lifetaps is really my only complaint.. The 25% shield block thing.. Seems nice on paper, but is it actually doing anything? My pally gets hit hard and often by solo mobs.. It was probably a bad decision to betray before 80.. But its giving me more time to learn the class which is the reason I did it..

Die, die traitors!!! xD

Some guy told me pallys do more DPS than SK on raids. And its a thing I can't believe. Could any of you who betrayed tell me the truth?

Pally's are more melee oriented than spell casting. Int helps though because you do get some decent nukes.Which line depends on your play style. If you're grouping most of the time, the wis line is good because you make everyone around you better. The wis end line ability rocks -- you cannot be feared, which is a big bonus in pvp against necros and warlocks. If you're solo'ing the sta line is great -- melee crits and a 10s damage immunity (if timed correctly can totally counter HT (tho I've never timed it correctly)). Yes the pally and sk share the crusader tree, so pally gets the spell crits if spec'd that way.Power is your friend -- pally derives power from str and wis, whereas sk derives power from str and int. A crusader can never have enough power. The Paladin is highly underrated in pvp, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Definitely not ez mode, but all the more rewarding when [ignorant scout name here] jumps you, gets hammered into the ground, has an "oh [Removed for Content]" moment, attempts to run, and ends up as your personal pin cushion. Good luck!-- Elistar, 37 paladin, nagafen

For those that are betraying from SK to Pally, there are a few things to look forward to. Comparing a level 80 paladin to a level 80 shadowknight, they have about the same number of AOEs/PBAOE's, except paladins have about half their aoes/pbaoes classified as combat arts that gain damage by str and not int and do not have movement restrictions. Comparing KOS lines is kinda moot as both sides have that, except for the fact that a paladin should have a much larger health pool if they spec correctly, making divine aura that much better to have. The items that stand out are in the EOF line. The Hero line will beef you up at least 500 health, make your shield protection 24% higher(higher block), make your group hate siphon Sigil last 20 Seconds, and doubel the health gained from you lifetap type melee combat art condemnation line. The Wrath line allows you to make most of your AOES 25% stronger and the end line gives you your most power ful aoe nuke: Smite Evil. Smite Evil is on a 1 minute recast timer that requires no power cost and is usually your highest non melee hit on parsers if not highest hit. It effects all non good classes and with tweaks form earlier updates seems to hit all but a few mobs out there. The Support line gives you options to make intercede recast quicker, add 5% more proc chance on self and group buffs, give 840 mitigation to all non fighters in a raid at no penalty to you, improve your recast of castigate(one of our coolest looking spells we have that deals alot of damage if we time it right. The end line is a Cure Spells ability that is 1 sec cast, 5 sec recast that will cure around 87 levels of all non trauma effects on you or another target, with each item cured generating around 400 hate in a short aoe range. The healing line i have dabbled some with, mostly some points in the single heal line to make it quicker cast/lower power to use and make the ward quicker recast.Generally speaking the shadowknight in offense mode versus a paladin in offense mode will usually beat the paladin in zone wide parse if neither are mt/ot. With the additional survival tools of the paladin and the superior agro they have, there is alot more guilds out there that are more inclined to gear up a paladin to help out than a shadowknight in ROK. Hopefully there will be some more tweaking on the shadowknight to help out on some more survival skills and better long term agro...
