Hey. Not trying to bash you guys or anything. I just wanna know if there was ever a reason why Swashbucklers and Brigands get taunts? You guys are DPS classes in the scout archetype. Why did the developers give you guys a taunt ability when you're not suppose to tank?

The level 80 brigand in my CoA group just now ended up pulling and tanking the mobs more than I did. I will give that he is 2 levels higher than I am, but darnit I did my absolute hardest to pull agro and still couldn't keep it off him.

... believe it or not, Swashies can tank in the right situation....

...as to the taunt.....well I use it to help save the pajama wearing soft bodies if there's an add or something like that....also the taunt we use interrupts the mob and dispels some number (63?)of levels of beneficial magic and mental buffs on the mob....

admittedly its not the most useful of my CA's

I use the bloody hell out of my taunt because I'm usually generating hate for the main tank. that extra aggro in the fight helps keep the mob on him, and if someone does get nuke happy I can spam it with a couple backstabs to a.) help the tank take back aggro or b.) pull it onto myself and detaunt it back onto him.

I pull aggro all the time on my brig, but I never use the taunt unless the tank actually goes down. I usually let myself keep aggro if I get it and have stuns to burn. I can face them away from me while they are targetted on me and basically keep them from doing any damage for about 15 seconds if I use all my stuns....when that's finished I just drop my hate position and he goes right back to the fighter. I've saved many a group wipe because of that 15 seconds of tanking without taking damage.

As for rogues having taunts....we only have 1 and it's not big enough to really matter that much when compared to everything else.

Thus far in Kunark I've successfully tanked a Korokust group without any fighters and only a single fury for a healer, and I've jumped in quite a few times when the tank drops or gets adds, but I am not nearly as good a tank as any fighter class and I will never claim to be. Ultimately, a good rogue will use the tools at their disposal to help you, not make it harder for you.

why do we get a taunt? why do fighters get combat arts? for the same reason, so they can have multiple roles. my zerker can parse almost as high as my swashy, and my swashy can tank as good as my zerker with the right AA spec.

Swashies can tank. when my swashy was spec'd stamina line I had two taunts, one group, one single, and i had a hate generating proc when in defensive stance. not only could he outparse the tanks, but he had better stats. most fabled tanks i ran into had 1% more physical mitigation, and ussually around 10%-20% less avoidance...IN DEFENSIVE STANCE...and my swashy could still outparse them.

swashies can tank quite well. however, thats only with the right AA build. with my swashies current dps build, if i throw a shield in and go defensive i only pull 1k dps, and his mit is ussually 10% less than a true plate tank.

so, why do we have taunts? because the devs want swashies to be a jack of all trades...doer of everything, master of none!

As the other posters alluded to, we are a diverse lot, we swashbucklers

The taunt we have, sans the extra bit from the STA line, isn't a huge hate generator, but the debuff, interrupt and extra hate to transfer is definately a boon. Outside of tanking, it does help keep the hate on the melee end of the spectrum outside of the caster/healer end.

Swashys are indeed a jack of many trades (but not all). We have dps, debuff and most importantly for this thread, hate management in the form of a single target mez, our above mentioned taunt and hate transfers. We are, in no particular order and in no way showing percentage, a side order of semi-tank and semi-mezzer with the main course as a DPS melee class
