I went afk in east freeport for 'bout an hour, I come back, and I notice some chat/tell text in yellow type (default color) that I have never received before. It is as follows:"You notice a note on a bulletin board. Taking a moment to read the note, you see the following, "Help! Our pet dragon has escaped. He is shy but will follow those who speak softly. Please help return our little one to us at the tavern."And I'm just confused as hell as to what's going on, and no one else seems to have any idea.Anyone got a clue or a lead?Or have I just been ignorant all these years and this is actually a common occurrence, not anything special?

<p>Interesting. Was it a /say or a /tell and from an NPC or PC? If apparently from a PC does the PC exist on EQ2Players? If not, it might have been a guide running a live event. . .</p>

<p>I have actually run into two instances where a dark elf has either asked me specifically or has shouted out in the zone for help with their dragon.  Doing a /who on them showed them to be a part of a guild that was something like "Guides of the Shattered Lands" or something similar.  The first time on my main the dark elf approached in Willowood and asked me to help guide their little dragon home.  I said sure and the dragon followed me to the inn in Willowood.  The dark elf thanked me and gave me a small house item for my time.</p><p>The second time, I was running my brigand through Greater Fay when I saw a /shout asking for help to find a lost dragon.  Again, a /who said they were from the same guild.  So thinking I could play a bit with this, I /shouted back that I'd help but the elves there didn't like us dirty rats in their city.  (I was on my way to a group in the Achadasiam(sp?) so I couldn't help anyway.)  I hopeing thet someone would play along with the elves hating outsiders or such but unfortunately no.  The dark elf gave me a /tell saying thank you and if I did find the dragon if I could return it to such and such tavern.  I said yes and warned her again that the elves there didn't like outsiders like us.  Ahhh, well... guess they didn't want to make any more of that as I got a thank you from her and that was it.</p><p> Anway, I think it is just a small guide event that's a little change of pace and kinda fun. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p><p>-S</p>

I got a System Message yesterday about a heart broken family who is looking for their missing dragon...then a min or two later I got another System Message saying that I heard the beating of wings....wondering if it was the missing dragon.......I asked the guild and then in OOC but no one knew about it.  I'm not sure if it's going to be a live event or new quest...I was coming here to see if there was anything posted about it.<img src="/eq2/images/smilies/0a4d7238daa496a758252d0a2b1a1384.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />MysticlassAntonia BayleExplorers of Norrath

ROFLMAO! This, my friends, is the work of your server GUIDE PROGRAM. It's amazing how few people know about the Guides of the Shattered Lands. They are volunteers who work independant of SoE to make your gaming a little more interesting. I participated with Killssara on one of their quests and got a nifty little pet orc shaman. The message you saw was about a quest they run during the holiday season. Please, if you see anyone from this guild, give them a warm welcome and a bit of nice RP chat, and ask them about the program. They love to talk!

<p>I ran into a lost baby dragon last weekend in West Freeport, trying to find his way home.  I help him and he gave me a reward.  No yellow text, just thru emotes, it was fun. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p><p>Our server got the yellow text described last night as well.  But I was busy and didn't have time to check it out.  I did a /who all guide and /who all GM and no one popped up.  I did not search for that guild specifically.  I think it's more fun then trying to come up with drinking stories of eq1 lore.  I love the lore, but I'm not that imgainative, especially on the spot like that.</p><p>I hope to see them do things more often.</p>

A week or two before Frostfell, I saw this happen when I was walking through Freeport. I almost immediately found the baby dragon, named Elise or something similar if I remember, and returned it to a room in the Blood Haze Inn. Got some Frostfell Cookies and Eggnog for it. Without a doubt, it was the best "event" I've ever seen in EQ1 or EQ2. The few EQ1 "events" that I saw were either slaughterfests where superpowered mobs indistiguishable from the regular mobs of the zone mowed down people or boxing matches between a giant gnome and a snow giant whose only interaction for players was wagering with the guide that was present. I dearly hope similar things as this baby dragon happen more often.

<p>I'd have been all over this event. I like them, the volunteers that step up to add a little something to the game, the quirky nature of these events, an extra quest for the quest count, the banter. It's like stumbling upon a table top RPG group that understands the R stands for role, rather than roll. </p><p>I've only encountered three, and took part in two. There's an occasional one in the commonlands, giving help by sorting out some Orc Priests. I got an ikkle orc pet out of that, and the guide was a pleasent person. </p><p>There was another one in Antonica, just a few of us sitting around in a building as the Guide cut and paste chunks of Norrathian lore, it was nicely done, with breaks for folk to comment in character and ask questions, really built a nice atmosphere. </p><p>The events I ignore are the drinking games I see shouted about in Qeynos Harbour, only because I fail to imagine the fun. What with the drink merely giving us funky vision, and not a comedic walk animation or slurred words as it did in EQ1. It could just be like the Antonican story telling, but I prefer to vacate the Harbour soon as possible and leave my characters drunks escapades to be something he gets up to when I'm not at the keyboard. </p><p>All power to the Guides. They're gems that make the world a better place. <img src="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/images/smilies/e8a506dc4ad763aca51bec4ca7dc8560.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" /></p>

Is this still on, then?  Can you still find the baby dragon in, say, WFP?

Nope. Now that Frostfell has finally fallen away **hee hee** the lost baby dragon has been penned up nice and safe till next year. But there are plenty of other off-the-wall things the guides do, so be on the lookout and you will hopefully see some other things. And by the way, the dwarven drinking contest isn't all about getting drunk............ it's a contest to see who can describe the goofy dwarf's concoctions, and one gets a nice keg of brew to put in their house if they win.

Well I think you'll find that Melodee is more than likely correct as this event popped with Frostfell and is most likely to disappear with it (see not too long after), much like the other seasonal events like when they were handing out the Nights of the dead 'scary creature' catalogues. I for one am not concerned because I'm sure there will be more events out for me to hear about from the lucky ones who encounter them. I was lucky enough to catch this one and got some norrathian holiday candles for my troubles <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />" />.I just hope I can encounter some more of these events instead of just reading about them. I want a little orc ;p.
