View Full Version : Casting Classes and auto attack?

Is there an option in options somewhere that I'm not seeing that will allow me to automatically swing my weapon when I'm not casting something? I was going to macro it but the only attack command I see (that appears to work) is a toggle, and I don't want to toggle it I want it on all the time if I'm in combat.I also would add the melee icon to a hotbar but that takes up precious hotbar space, I have 7 open and will use them all.Ideally there's a setting in options I'm not seeing but I can't seem to find it, if there's not one there, how can I macro turning on auto attack regardless of it's current state?

Best answer I can give you is pressing ~

~ is the same as turning auto attack on or off. I try and do this immediately before casting my first spell on a new target when playing a caster.

Thank you for the suggestion however ^^

I press my vent key routinely while playing because it is also a hot key for regular actions while playing. So far no one has ever seemed to notice. You could macro it, but then if you use your opening spell a 2nd time in a fight, or if you don't use that spell to open, it doesn't do very much good. I agree it would be nice to start auto attacking when you are engaged in spell casting though.

If I'm feeling particularly lazy and only want to use my mouse hand, I'll right click to attack.

If you don't want to click to attack, don't want to hit another key to attack, and don't want to use a slot on your hotbar to attack...macro is your only other option.

Generally on my casters I will replace the spell on the hotbar that I would use to start combat with a macro instead. Example...for my Warden I pretty much always start off with Root, so I replace Root on my hotbar with a simple macro that casts the Root, and has the /toggleautoattack. Then I follow that with another macro that will automate casting my spell-based HO. My Warden is melee spec'd, so after that first root and HO to get things going I do not need it again. Unless I'm about to die and I root and run, in which case it doesn't matter if hitting my macro again toggles combat back off.

My Mystic is a bit more complex starting off. His macro sends his pet in to attack, starts casting ward on the pet so it doesn't die in 1-2 hits, starts my autoattack, then targets the pet so my spells will and attacks will hit his target while still allowing me to heal/ward the pet if necessary. I could ward the pet before starting combat, but then there's more clicking around and the ward can wear off too fast after combat starts. Just didn't find it as efficient that way.

If you want efficiency just find a macro setup that suits your class and playstyle...I wish I had done so sooner than I had, it can make a huge difference in your gameplay.

You can reset your autoattack hotkey. I use numpad zero, and have for years. When I came to EQ2, no way was I going to change that, so I just reset the default.

Don't have the game up atm, but it's under your EQ2 menu, options.

The easiest way:add this command line to all your attack spells, or the one you use the most often or open up with./auto 1You can do this by right click a spell, choose create macro, then add the command line. This will not turn autoattack off if you use it again, only turns it on if it was previously off.I do this with my twobox account to save me from hitting a key : )

I just looked at the OP's xfire sig........113 hours played this week? Hopefully your just leaving the game on all night or something. That is far too much time spent playing a game.......there are only 168 hours in a week.
