View Full Version : What makes playing a Mystic fun for you?

I've noticed recently that it seems more veteran players who have played every healing class settle on Mystic eventually as their preferred play-style. I've been playing a Templar and Warden, but am planning on seeing what Mystic has to offer as well. Just from looking over your abilites I'm guessing having the best buff/debuff arsenal must be fun...making your group stronger while reducing MOBs to quivering jello waiting to be sliced up hehe. 40% run buff with enhanced SoW is up there with the fastest classes in the game as well. Seems like a great balance between a very solo-capable and group/raid friendly class too. Maybe one of the most versatile. Am I hitting on the main draws here?

I rather enjoy how wards work myself. The 'major heal' mechanics are why I seem to enjoy one healer over another. I loathe playing a templar for example =)(never tried inquisitor), enjoy my warden & fury well enough but REALLY REALLY like both my mystic and my defiler.

I do like not just being a one trick pony though. I like having the other things I can bring to the equation other than healing whether that is my debuffs, buffs or melee damage. That could be said for other healer classes as well though, so that brings me back to my love of the ward healing.

I do enjoy being quite capable of soloing these days as well as being useful at my guild's raids and what not. But I came up as a mystic 'back in the day' when we were one of the worst (slowest) soloer's out there hehe and enjoyed my class even back then.

It's the less "pure healing" more blocking and debuffing playstyle that appeals to me.

I play on a pvp server, so there's the added appeal of being a healer that isn't a druid aspect of it. After that it's the added appeal of not being a scout, then there's the added appeal of not playing on easy-mode. Ohh and finally, there's the added appeal of playing what's perceived as one of the worst pvp classes and being semi-successful (though still somewhat frustrating).

Plus we get to turn ourselves into snakes, which lags only slightly behind enchanters' ability to turn into ratongas.

I twobox with a zerker and I just love the fact that the warding effect enables me to do alot of heroic content that I in some cases couldn't do with the other healer classes. Having a ward on you is like having an extra thousand hitpoints added on to you and knowing that you are protected from damage until that ward drops. The buffs and debuffs also make tanking alot more reasonable with the slows and the bolster spells we get. And mystics can put up some decent DPS with the appropriate AA specs. I tore thru the levels very quickly with my twobox zerker/mystic and I really enjoy being able to participate in raids with my mystic usually in a offtank/support group which suits me just fine.

Soloing for my shaman is absolutely awesome. I thrive in groups. Wards <3Mostly, I enjoy making the Spirit Companion actually worthwhile while many others just complain about it's "uselessness."

I've considered betraying to Defiler since around level 50 and now that I'm 80 I came very close to but I can't bring myself to do it. Not because I'd have to get all new spells, thats easy, but I really do enjoy playing as a Mystic. I now have 2 sets of gear that I'm pretty happy with (1 for dps and 1 for healing) which probably won't see any upgrades until my guild starts raiding in RoK.

What has always made me envy Defilers was their power regen but I am finding power management becoming less and less of an issue on raids as my gear has gotten better.

Things I love:

Versatility - Need me full out healing/support? np OR I can dps now with light healing? np

Debuffs

Bolster

Combat Line in EoF

Dog w/str line maxed out. Seeing a lot more ripostes in RoK so positioning the dog behind the mobs is a minor irritant but whatever..

Things I don't love:

The fact that we buff stats so much and the tanks that i group/raid with are mostly at or darn near close 730-1000 on stats before i even Avatar them

Again, power regen, but I've learned to deal with it.

-80 Mystic
