When the Customize option is available your cursor turns into a little hammer and saw. It's not available everywhere, and as I recall the starter inn was particularly picky.

I'm pretty sure the houses in Gorowyn and the Kelethin acorns don't have those customize options for the floors and walls. So, I guess if you don't like them, carpets, paintings, and tapestries are your friends. But the Gorowyn houses are much cheaper and, in my opinion, way cooler looking than the Qeynos and Freeport ones. Also immediate broker/tradeskill/banker/mailbox access makes them even more awesome.

The only houses which can be customized are those in Qeynos and its suburbs and Freeport and its suburbs. For very good info on tradeskills and housing options got to www.eq2traders.com

There are a couple of shelves in my house that I have to stand on a table in order to get that angle and place them properly.

If you're having problems with books, an easy fix is to start on the bottom shelf, then use CTRL + Scroll wheel to raise it to the desired shelf level. Use ALT as well to raise in smaller increments. But generally its easier to place on many shelves when you are higher up. I tend to carry around an extra table or 2 to stand on when decorating.
