Hello,

I had major problems with shuttering in town and sometimes outside of town but mostly in town. It was really bad to the point were the game was unplayable. It was droping to 1 or even 0 fps every couple of seconds. I know what the problem is right away I asked my brother who works with computers and he said something about memory leak and EQ2 eating my memory to nothing. He said to upgrade my memory to 2GB from 1GB and that would make a big difference. So I did it. My problem is gone, no spikes of lag, I have 100% stable FPS. It's wonderful, it will work for you guys too that have only 1GB of memory. I am recommending this to you guys and hope it works if you have this problem!

"More RAM" is the panacea for every computer problem. As my old friend Flav used to say "Don't...Don't...Don't believe the hype!"

SC

Upgrading from 1g - 2g was enough to not only remove most of the QH lag (and other popular areas) but to keep it gone even after increasing the graphical quality. The game is absolutely playable with 1g, but have 2g+ makes a world of difference. Upgrading graphics cards goes a long way as well, but moreso if you are wanting to up the quality of course.

Ditto here..

I kept eyeing better and badder video cards isolating lag in my internet connection, I lagged horrible in all the city zones it was hard to move about. I even gave up on the game for a bit. Then just before buying a new video card to replace my 6800 I upgraded from one to two gig. WOW, that was it. No more lag and now I run on very high settings..

Important to know, This game needs memory, lots and lots.

The problem with an open forum like this, and with a tech support staff seeking to avoid an issue, is that there is constant obfuscation of the problem because there is no real specificity around each case.

Of course being short on RAM, having a badly fragged drive, suffering internet connection problems, having heat or power issues, having hardware failure... All of these things can cause problems that appear to be "lag", "hitching" or "stuttering".

For folks who were merely suffering from not having enough RAM, congrats! Certainly you will be happy with 2GB. Now just PRAY that you dont end up joining the 40+ page threads consisting mainly of folks like me and the other guy above who have meticulously and professionally maintained PCs with 2-4GB RAM, perfectly clean installs, scientifically chosen hardware and top of the line CPUs and GPUs

When you support PCs for a living, have been building and maintaining them for 20 years, have a top of the line rig, and see problems like EQ2 has been having, you KNOW it is a cause for concern.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of people populating the 40+ page threads seem to be in this category which is bad news for SOE because it means they have a real problem. Thats NOT to say there arent people who simply ARE suffering from a badly maintained system or lack of resources. There ARE, its just that there are many who have these problems who are NOT.
