OK, i know everyone is blaming SOE for this, but it turns out i've found a fix on the Microsoft site. I would always crash out in North Freeport at the same spot every time if i had my graphics settings set high. I had to drop graphics settings just to walk past this certain spot. It happened in other zones too.

Last week, i installed Crysis and it highlighted that i needed to install a Windows hotpatch to make it work properly with Vista. I read this knowledgebase article and it seemed to cover the issue i was having with EQ2. Sure enough, after installing the fix on Vista 64, i've not had a single crash with my settings maxed out.

Here is the link, try it out and post feedback.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940105

This sounds like the same problem I am having using Vista Home Premium under boot camp with a MacBook Pro. I will check out that fix and see if it works.

Good find and thanks for sharing it! I am going to pass this to some friends using Vista.

I think if you've been doing the updates you might already have this. I just tried to install it on my new vista laptop with all it's updates and it keeps saying it doesn't apply to my system.

This fix has been mentioned several times in the large "sticky" thread devoted to out_of_memory crashes. Still, it never hurts to post a reminder for those not willing to plow through page after page of input in search of a solution. Here's a good link to 940105, as well as other Vista patches related to both this issue and others effecting nVidia graphics.VISTA HOTFIXESIt's an official nVidia website article. I've no idea how many of these hotfixes apply to ATI/AMD graphic cards. Several surely do not. Also note that 940105 works in conjunction with nVidia's 63xx, or more recent, graphics drivers. And of course these are Vista only, not XP.I run EQ2 at 1280x1024 in a full-screen window, Very High Quality, with Character LOD Textures reduced to medium. All relevant hotfixes (basically all but the SLI patches) and the 63xx driver (69xx is available now) are installed. The combo of 940105 and 63xx does indeed greatly reduce out_of_memory crashes. It does not, however, wholly eliminate them. Early this week I experience one in Terens, near the transport post. It was my first since updating to 63xx soon after RoK launched. I have not raided since then, and suspect I'll need to use a lower quality setting for major raids to avoid crashes. Before RoK I used nVidia's 58xx drivers. I think the game looked better with those. But they were more prone to out_of_memory crashes pre-RoK, and crashed constantly in Kylong (mostly near the docks and in Teren, but elsewhere too).I encourage all who suffer these crashes to /bug report each occurrence, including relevant system info. EQ2 Tech Support might well be following the main forum thread on the subject, but if so they have not made their presence known in quite some time.As for me, my system consists of; Intel e6600 CPU, ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus motherboard (nVidia chipset), 4gb (4x1gb) DD2667 ram, 8800GTS 640 graphics, Vista64.

I have now downloaded this fix, and it seems to be working great so far. I used to crash in Qeynos Harbor or any other usually laggy area (Terens Grasp) when I had my graphics set above balanced. I haven't been able to test this yet for more than just a few minutes, so nothing is for sure yet. But, it is a good sign that I was able to run through a crowded Qeynos Harbor on max settings.
