Mod: move to Tech forum so everyone can get a look at the specs and the OP can get a better idea of his situation/options.

1 more gig of ram will do you wonders for performance short-term. Here is a helpful link to tune up computer a bit (nothing big, but some points maybe helpful): http://www.techbargains.com/hottips...tip12/index.cfm

First off, the RAM's been mentioned, if you can get more, then that would help... a little bit and it won't really help all that much for FPS.You've got a fairly old video card (early 2005) that was aimed at the budget market. While the card, in it's time, was a fantastic card for it's price versus performance, it's gonna hurt running an intensive game like EQ2.Yes, you surpass the recommended system requirements, but I don't think they updated it for RoK or anything. On top of that, EQ2's engine isn't exactly... how shall I put this... fully optimized. You'll find, if you check the tech forums, that some of the most insane system setups that are absolutely bleeding edge, top of the line can't run EQ2 at extreme quality, which is pretty bad for a game that's 3+ years old and doesn't exactly look like Crysis. It doesn't look like that'll change so an investment in a better video card and CPU, if your system supports it, would be a good idea.

I'm pretty new to EQ2 and I'm not at all tech savvy but I have found on my computer (which was bought brand new in 8/07) that I get the best performance running on "full screen" which is an option under your performance settings. The graphics don't come through as nice and sharp but the overall performance is better. My toons move and run smooth without any jerking and jumping around. This is different than maximizing your window, which when I play that way I don't have great performance.

How is that for a low tech solution.....

The sad fact of the matter is that EQ2 will only run bearably in extreme performance mode on the vast majority of the PC's deployed around the world. If you are sitting on an older architecture PC, the best bang for your buck upgrades might be to upgrade RAM (if you have less than 2 gig) and upgrade the graphics card.I can usually get EQ2 working pretty well in settings a little under "balanced" on a P4 (or similar AMD) based PC with decent RAM and 6 series or later GFX.I can get EQ2 working well in settings higher than "quality" but les than "extreme" on a Dual Core Pentium (or similar AMD) based PC with decent RAM and 8 series GFX.This is with windows XP. I didn't upgrade to Vista yet on any gaming PC's.

My pc is three years old with less than a gig RAM and by all rights, I should be having a hella time playing....but I am not just a little under Balanced.

It depends on the computer and drivers and its basically a crapshoot XD

As it is, I hope you don't have shadows on.

And Dual Core does nothing for EQ2...it will only use one.
