View Full Version : An Ugly Bounty, an ugly quest

What, again, is the rationale for giving quest mobs long respawn times? It's not like anyone is going to camp the mobs in An Ugly Bounty for loot. This quest has not one but four mobs you have to camp. That I know of anyway. Ok, one of the mobs "only" has a 15 min respawn which isn't too bad - unless you're in a group. And there's really no reason for the mob to have a respawn of any length in the first place.

Had to wait for over an hour for the first named to spawn. I started the quest solo but by the time the mob did spawn, I was in a group with 5 others waiting on it. Four of us stayed together for the next step, free the npc Threeko. Except each time he was freed, we each had to wait 15 mins for it to spawn again - which makes absolutely no sense. I know RoK is designed for soloing, but why design a quest that actually discourages grouping?

Now, 45 minutes later, I'm solo again (everyone else had to log), and I'm off to kill the croc, Scales. I figure my chances are good it's up. You really have to go out of your way to find it, so it's not likely anyone has killed it. About an hour and 20 minutes later, I give up waiting for it to spawn. According to EQ2 Wiki, it's supposed to have a respawn time of an hour. The next named you have to kill has a respawn time (supposedly) of 72 mins.

Now, I've spent over 3 hours waiting for mobs to spawn. Even if the croc had spawned, with the way things were going I realistically could have waited another hour (plus). Four hours waiting for mobs to spawn for one quest? That makes this one ugly quest.

The rationale, as it were, was to make it slow to complete the quest. The quest line, as I'm sure you know, ends in a Fabled reward.

Long camps and time sinks =! making it worth a Fabled item.Cut it down to Legendary and kill the stupid camping time sinks if that's the case. Leave camping to EQ1 please.

If you've waited that long for Scales, you're in the wrong place. He has at least two spawn points that I personally have seen. FWIW, this quest took me about 2 1/2 hours, and one hour of that was waiting on Murgururlongname to spawn. Early morning camping FTW.

Scales has 2 spawn points, and a timer of 1 hour. You were either in the wrong place, or not looking in both spots.I did all 3 of these quests in the series in 1 afternoon, only with a 1 hour break for allowing the name in the mines to spawn. No big deal.

I think most people would rather wait a couple extra hours/days to get the item than to see the nerf bat swung yet again.Really, the key is to NOT do it on the weekend during the day. Most other times it's not all that bad, but so many people are weekenders that it gets rediculous.

I just want to see the Bracelet of Thuuga get +75 Spell Damage to compliment it's +2% Damage Spell Crit. I mean...there is no excuse for two items with +75 Heal Amount on them.

After finishing the quest I' am left with a no-destroy key

Is there another quest after this one that uses the key - a bug- or did I miss something ?

When I did it, there were two listed on eq2maps and yet he spawned in the third pool in the area.

The only issue I see with this quest is the fact that Theeko only updates one person when you free him. The update should go to all players in the group, there is no reason it should not. Sure the camps might suck a little for the named mobs you have to kill but other then the Theeko thing I think this quest is well in line with its reward.A fabled reward of this level should require a good amount of time and a good quest series to obtain if its a quest reward. This quest has a good quest series and it consumes a good amount of time to complete but the reward is worth the time IMO.

I personally like the fact that solo quests have solo updates. If the quest is designed for a single person the reward is designed to be achieved by a single person doing it in a certain amount of time. A full group will accomplish the kills faster so why should a group be rewarded the same for technically less effort??The reward for grouping and doing the solo quest mobs is: less risk of dying while doing them AND typically more loot from trash mobs while doing it. Cant explain it but I always get more loot drops when grouped than when killing solo. Maybe a coincidence but its a consistent observation for me anyway.

This quest is Heroic, its just a really easy heroic quest that can be soloed by a lvl 80 player. If the quest is done at the level its intended to be done at its probably meant to be grouped (75).While I would tend to agree about solo quests giving solo updates, this quest has a highly desirable reward. With the fact that the respawn timers are mostly 72mins it should not be expected to be a solo only quest. It can be solo-able but also able to support groups of players wishing to do this quest. If they change the Theeko update to update your group then they will be able to meet the needs of groups of players without a ridiculous time sink update. I was camping the guy for the key to free Theeko and 2 other players came up and asked to join me. I let them and we all got the key, but we had to wait 45mins for all of us to get the Theeko update, after that we did the entire rest of the quest together and I must say it was far more enjoyable with others because of the somewhat long camps.Others might think that the named respawns are in the 'ridiculous' time sink update category but I would disagree. I think they are just fine as they are, especially since they update your entire group on the kill.

I was able to solo the entire Quest as a 75 Swashbuckler, I died 3-4 times but I was able to complete it all alone.

Considering most of the other updates are about 72 minutes, it's really not all that out of line.

If this quest is made any easier they might as well have the Captain at the Fens zone make you return three game days later and hand you the reward. Compared to the effort required for the MoA it's silly how easy this quest is.
