I have played EQ1 before played wow for awhile and started EQ2 quite recently with my wife.

we tried many different classes trying to figure out the perfect duo combination, we finally settled with mystic and the conjuror (I know it is not the perfect combination but we still have lots of fun with it)

Anyhow, yesterday we were doing quests in thunder steppes and there was a named lion "Claw", me and my wife both are lvl 26 and "Claw" was also lvl 26 three up heroic mob. We tried to take him down several times and we just couldn't do it.

Is it because conjuror + mystic is not an effective duo? or any other duos having trouble killing same lvl 3 up heroics? I just want to know whether so called the perfect duos (like monk + shaman, Sk + fury) also having samk kind of trouble like us or not.

A lot will depend on your gear and AA's at low levels. Was the conj using the tank pet in defensive stance? Were one of you pulling agro off the pet? Were you double checking to make sure you warded the pet and not the conjurer? Did you pre-heal? Was the conjurer also healing their pet and trying to keep the mob rooted if agro broke?

In theory with the duo you have you should be able to take down any non-caster mob you can root. If the pet dies, have the conj root the mob and resummon the pet while you heal back up ready for round 2...

Patience is the key, keep trying

we were doing what we were supposed to. One hit on the pet, the ward is gone, one more this it takes away 1/4 of pet health. yes it is a tanking pet. i end up non stop healing the pet and eventually the conjuror pet dies. maybe we should use the caster pet and use the root strategy.

Not sure about that one in particular, but mobs with a name are usually harder (sometimes much harder) than regular mobs. Make sure the mystic is debuffing the mob and that he has upgraded his wards.

Three up mobs are not meant to be killed by a duo, let alone three up NAMED mobs.I'm not saying it isn't possible, but it is certainly not intended. I think it's even in the description . . . something about three or more people.Yes, at level cap, with a full set of AA's and some really good gear it could happen. But at L26? Not too likely.

You should indeed have your spells upgraded if you hope to be duoing named. Not only you, but your conjurors pet as well. The tank pet should be at least adept 3.

The same with your Keening Haze. That should be M2 (if your ST ward is already at least AD3). If you spent your level 24 M2 selection on the ST ward, then spend your level 14 M2 on Wailing Haze.

Keep the mob debuffed. Use your group ward AND your ST ward. Then it should be doable to duo claw.

thank you very much for all the information. i am going to upgrade all the spells to adept 4 (since my profession is sage) and try him again. hopefully that will help. thanks again

Big problem is that the tank pet has massive life but 0 mitigation, so that is one of the reasons that your wards are down so fast.

The conjurer should at least have pet and defense stance at adept3, he should also skill STA line in the KoS tree, and the tankpet AAs in the EoF tree.

Did you also used your group-ward or just the single ward ?

/repeat what others said about upgrading spells.

I know I duo'ed claw with a berserker WAY back in the day of wards not using mitigation, in old school AQ armor & app4's. Then again he and I could duo just about anything we came across as well.

Pet & pet defense stance would be big one's to keep as high quality as you can get them, as well as your wife's wards.

My husband plays a necro and started playing eq2 after I was already maxed out in level, had mostly KOS raid gear and was AD3 and mastered out. We were able to duo many instances with me mentoring when he was a few levels higher than the mobs. Obviously it is easiest to do when the mobs have turned green and are just about to grey out. You still get AA and loot for the kill when they are green. For some mobs I did have to heal the heck out of his pet but it is possible.

We also leveled up a zerker/fury duo and had a much easier time with instances with those two. Since I wasn't raiding with the zerker we mostly had mastercrafted gear with important spells at ad3.

pre RoK heroics are "eazy", you should be able to take ones easily as duo. If not, work out your strategies and/or gear + spell upgrades.*edit*oh, of course the nameds are a different story, some of them can be really nasty... that ones obviously melee, so a decent tank would help? *smirk*(go melee with your mystic and tank with it is what im trying to say here... bleep)++Xan

Nameds are also really different if you just look at their HPs. The Named Bixie and Vultak in TT for example have around 30k HPs, while the first Named in Nest has 80k, the next 2 have 120k and the last 140k.
