Popped an XP potion and decided to just writ and grind my way through level 73 and 74 before the potion was up. Now I was at 0% tradeskill vitality by the time the potion wore off, halfway through 75.

Any chance we can increase the regeneration rate of tradeskill vitality or something? I really don't like the prospect of having to wait 7 days to get back up to 100%.

I know some people dont' give a darn about tradeskill vitality, but carpenters should. We only get like 3 recipes per level, and using vitality with an XP potion is about the fastest way for me to level up.

Even a Sage has to grind Tradeskill XP in the 70's but it is faster (and cheaper) to do Rush Writs than just grind out items. Vitality isn't all that important at that level because the big XP comes from completing the writ, a quest reward unaffected by Vitality, and not from creating the items.

Cusashorn, you are an EQ][ vet and know the purpose of Vitality and that it is a BONUS, not a penalty when you have run out. Also, it is commonly recommended to save your bonus XP potion until after your Vitality is gone because first-time pristine discovery XP is not doubled by Vitality but consumes it anyway.

Yeah, but the way I see it, it's a penalty to not have the bonus. I've come to think that tradeskilling without vitality is like getting XP while mentoring someone. You only get partial of what you could get.

Vitality gives you about 1 free level per week. If you want to level more quickly than that, then you have to do it without vitality.

Incidentally, writs are now the most efficient way to level up for those classes who have very low recipe count.

Actually writs are the most efficient way to gain large amounts of xp. Xp potions are the most efficient way to gain xp fast.

I'd suggest doing just writs until you run out of vitality. This way your maxamizing the quest xp that you receive while still getting the double xp from vitality. Overall you'll level faster than using the potion and waiting for vitality to build up again. Using that method I think I gained a level every 3 days doing provisioning, and did it all with vitality.

However, you earn approximately 0.5% per hour, every hour on the hour, and it takes a about a week to get 100% vitality.

Crafting discos and recipes eats vitality at a pretty good clip, but the bonus xp you get from a WO doesn't cost you vitality. If you run out of vitality it's possible to craft for a decent period of time every other day if you do WO's and no discos. Even 20% vitality can make for a decent WO session.I generally save up my discos for when I haven't been crafting and have good vitality, then take a potion to maximize what you get.

Banditman wrote:
Incidentally, writs are now the most efficient way to level up for those classes who have very low recipe count.
That's one of the reasons an XP bonus was added to writ completion, to even out the XP gain between classes with a lot of discovery (scholars) and everyone else. Scholars, sages especially, get less benefit from writs for maximizing XP gain for leveling vs any other class.

Carpentry is the official easy mode of EQ2 crafting. Get some mods and pumping out twenty T8 writs per hour is easy. Maybe thirty would be possible if you slummed it on the ferrite chairs and tables.

But the solution is to make the experience more fun so that you enjoy it and do not mind it taking a reasonable time. Personally I would like to be able to echange all the pointless (imo) xp potions I keep being given for something I actually want.

Without vitality those numbers are halved. However, the roughly 5% xp you get per rush writ does not change whether you have vitality or not. So, let's see what the real cost is to the crafter once their vitality is gone (and for these examples we will assume that half the items being made are white, and the other half are blue, because that is typical of writs for most levels except for x0, x1 and x9):Example A - Full Vitality(3 x 1.0%) + (3 x 0.8%) + 5% = 3% + 2.4% + 5% = 10.4% per writ or about 9.6 writs per level.Example B - No Vitality(3 x 0.5%) + (3 x 0.4%) + 5% = 1.5% + 1.2% + 5% = 7.7% per writ or about 13 writs per level.Assuming each writ is completed in 6 minutes, it will take you about 20 minutes longer to gain a level, or about 3 1/2 hours more to grind from 70 to 80.What's another 3 1/2 hours when the alternative is to stop cold every 2.5 levels and have to wait a full week for the vitality to recharge?Oh yeah, and let's also consider that by sticking to the grind and doing that extra 3.4 writs for the last 7 levels of the tier, you're going to gain roughly 3.4 x 7 x 8g or 1.9p in extra income for your trouble.Again, my numbers are only approximate here, and pristine bonuses are not factored in at all because that varies so widely from class to class but I can back them up with my own personal experience. In a nutshell, tradeskill vitality is nice when you have it but when it's gone you're far better off continuing than wasting a week waiting for it to come back.

keLston wrote:
Does pristine discovery xp get a benefit from the xp potions?
Yes. You do get three times as much XP doing a discovery as a non-discovery, including all bonuses from vitality, XP potions and bonus XP (e.g., bonus week-end).It also costs three times as much vitality. If you only craft until your vitality is gone, you won't get any further using discoveri es, you'll just get there using fewer recipes (i.e., shorter in-game time and fewer resources)./RS

Just do rush writs and you will thank yourself for the faction. Sooner or later you will have to grind faction if you want to make the mirror.
