View Full Version : How many of you worked your way up as a Mystic and then betrayed?

Just curious. If you did, at what level did you betray and do you feel that was a good time to do so or would you have done it sooner/later?

Even though soloing can take longer as a Defiler than as a Mystic, is it better to learn the class from the bottom up rather than switch over? Part of me wants to experience a little of both since I enjoy knowing the ins/outs of different classes and since the early levels would go faster. Thanks for your comments!

I played a mystic on PvP for over a year, and then when my guild exiled, I switched to defiler. Not really for leveling purposes, but if I was to make a new defiler, I probably would because soloing as a defiler is teh DEBIL!

I did it at around 55. Took me a few days of grouping to get everything down. I kinda wished i would have waited and raided with him just to see the difference it would have made, if any. I raid with my defiler and love it though

I leveled up to 67 as a Defiler, and then betrayed to a Mystic for a while. One I hit 80, though, I realized how stupid it is to be a raiding Mystic when you're using 60-something debuffs on 80+ mobs. I promptly betrayed back and am happier than ever. Sure, soloing is harder, but not my that much. Sony introduced a lot of +spell dam gear.

I leveled my Mystic to level 73 and with all the power related problems and not being able to switch gear out in combat anymore... tonight I started the betrayal process. I am living in Haven at the moment. I think I will probably like the change based on everything that I have read.

I didn't exactly. I betrayed as soon as I could (at lvl 10). I didn't like doing the first 10 levels as a mystic. However, I had no choice as my Defiler is a Wood Elf. Would play a Defiler over a Mystic anyday. Tellin ya, I don't know what I would do without Cannabilize, lol.

defiler since day 1.Though then it went healer -> shaman -> defiler/mystic instead of the starting out as a defiler. The shaman class as a whole has been through sooooo many changes for any player playing longer then a few years it's hard to ask that question. We've been through not being considered a healer, been through kicked out of groups because our wards caused more damage to a tank then not warding them (before mitigation counted). I'd say in the next few years the class will change again.

I had to start as a mystic because I rolled a Fae. But, I started the betrayal at level 15 or so and have been a defiler ever since. I'm almost level 79 now and I've never regretted it.

Betrayals are less of a culture shock at lower levels but you can successfully do it at the high end too. I betrayed my 68 paladin to SK and the first day I absolutely hated it because it was so different. Then I did a bit of reading on the forums and learned how to play my new class <grin> and now I love it too!

I guess I'm just evil at heart because my other high level toons are a necro and a bruiser

hmm lemme see... I was a Mystic till 54 and then they nerfed the effect of our debuffs so that we didnt have anything to offer. went Defiler up to 70 and then when they fixed the AA so Mystics can function i went back and am now 80 mystic. for pure healing the Defiler has an edge but i found that the group utility of the mystic is more my playing style. It took a while to get used to the mana useage but now I rarely drop below 80% mana even in 10 minute fights of constant casting.

I played as a Mystic up until around level 28 or so. I was soloing with the INT path (since I prefer casting over melee), and since Defiler does it better, I betrayed. Granted, I'm only 33 right now.

Finally finished w/ betrayal and although I miss my combat arts a little overall the Defiler is seemingly more fun then I though it was gonna be.

Now to start the epic! the real reason I went dark in the first place
