I'm still a very young Swash (14) so please bear with me. I'm doing pretty well with most single mobs and still trying to work out a good plan for social mobs but now my question has to do with non-humanoid type mobs. I'm looking for suggestions about the best way to take down:

1) Mobs that fly (bats, birds, etc.)

2) Mobs without a clearly defined "back". Most recently I was trying to kill a firey guardian which is just a collection of fire balls, I couldn't have found the front from the back if a million dollars was the prize. Also, a coiled snake gave me problems trying to work a way behind him for any type of backstab attacks.

3) Those mobs that combine both of the above. Thinking about things like the cave serpants. They fly and they move around A LOT forwards, backwads, around in circles. Top that off with the fact that they are flying at or around the same level as my head and that left me with the option of just attacking head on. Wondered if there was a better way.

Thanks.

Well, if you don't have or don't use a bow, some of your later combat arts are slightly ranged (Hold line and Gibe line) These work rather well for a short to mid ranged pull on flying creatures.

As for the positioning of the mobs, your pincer line (stealth damage and knockdown) works well on the non-direction specific mobs (slimes, flying snakes, wisps). This will at the very least give you a second or two to jump around if the point you attacked at is not flank or behind.

As for a combination of the two, it gets really tricky on things like wisps. I've just pulled with a ranged weapon or art, then once engaged, stun, get behind for the positional arts and work from there. Keep in mind you have a lot of stun-like spells in your arsenal as you get up in levels. One thing that even I forget about in situations like this is our mez (disarming grin line). You could work it in after you pull (turn off auto attack as you cast) and then get yourself behind and stealthed in order to open up with the Pincer-Spine attack-Slice line of attacks. For ease of use soloing, I've tied all three to the same button with another hotbar out of the way to watch the recast timers on them.

Also, when you start raking in the AA points, I'd strongly consider the agility line for the Walk-the-plank ability. Ever so nice to get the mob to about face and allow for one (or more at higher ranks) positional attacks.

Hello,

For attacking flying mobs, I like to tab until I get them targeted, and then I typically use my weapon throw combat art (it's velium throw at my level), I don't remember what it's called for the first or second tier.

For mobs that don't have a distinctive front and back, pull the mob and kite it to yourself. As it heads towards you, you will know where the front of it is. Just try to keep track of it in combat. One of the aa lines you can go down, has an effect that will automatically turn the mobs rear to you. I will use this sometimes when it's tough to determine the back.

If you pay attention to your CA's you will notice certain combo's you can use to get the upperhand on what you are attacking. (invis, rear attack, stun, continue to rear attack). YOu can get the mob half way down or dead before he can even hit you!!

Happy hunting, I don't care what anyone says, I have a 70 coercer 70 guardian and a 77 swashy, I love the swashy...

Dread
