Newbie question from me since I havent played in a while.... So when you're in combat you auto face the enemy. Normally this is fine. When I want to get the heck out of there and run though its a problem. I thought what you had to do was /yell and maybe hit the ESC button? But seems like I still stay in combat stance and auto face the encounter mobs if they get close. Very annoying. Any way to break out of combat, sheath your weapons and just run!?

You should have a key set up to be "melee attack" which will toggle melee attack on and off. I have it set to the single back quote button next to the "1".When you want to stop fighting, press that and you will stop autoattacking. It's also helpful for starting combat if you aren't beginning combat with a combat art (combat arts automatically start your autoattack, spells do not).

There is an option (buried somewhere "ALT-O&quot to turn off the Auto-Face feature.

Also some classes can have buffs that willl activate auto attack and put you into combat after being attacked, berserkers have a skill that can cause this to happen.

I always just smack the esc key a few times and run like heck Sometimes you stick and turn around which sends you right back at the mob..but just keep mouse look going and keep running.

If you find you have to run, target yourself (F1) and yell (/y or a hotkey). Targetting yourself before yelling will break all encounters and make auto-face irrelevant.

To yell an encounter of is sometimes the way to go but a lot of times if I get adds or multiple encounters and I really don't just want to yell them all of so I hit the escape key and start running. Sooner or later I get the message that mob so and so is not worth any xp, if I have say 3 mobs on me but only want to fight one of them and if it does not mater which, then I run off 2 and stop and fight the 3rd one. There is a Yell icon in the knowledge book you can put on your spell bar if you want.J.C.

I believe the default auto-attack toggle key is ~, at least that's how my PC is set up and I don't recall customizing any hotkeys to day.

I think the Auto Face feature really mucks me up when I am trying to run, usually panic has taken over and as such I don't push ` to disengage combat. So 3 steps away from the mob my guy is trying to turn around again, looks funny when you are running backwards and of course just adds to the panic.
