Ok, i'm leveling, and am curious about some things. 1) Is there a website other than eq2flames or these forums that is devoted solely to enchanter issues and such. Its not that I dont like the forums, but I just like as much info as i can get. Mainly I am thinking something player run.2) One of the things that cemented me on this class, is that besides awesome utiilty, and the ability to make things ever so much easier with all our power managing abilities, there is the prospect of being able to do dps. I was wondering if anybody out there would be willing to give advice on improving dps, there by increase the hate generation even more. I know it can be done, and have seen it done. Please no posts how we cant do as much dps as 'insert class here'. I dont care about how much dps other classes can do, i've raided as several if them, and am only concerned here with improving my skills at my class. Also, I may one day play an illusionist, i don't know, but I don't want to do it right now, so no comparisons to them also or telling me to play that if i wanted to do dps. Thank you.

The best I can think of to maximise our DPS is reactives and fast casting with damage proc items on.The new mobs in RoK use more abilities and cast more often so our dps will increase just because or this.If your in a tough zone and are concentrating on keeping the mob stunned and “controlled” then your dps will be lower, however if you are not concerned with the damage being taken by your tank or pet don’t “control” the mob, let it use power, cast spell and hit the tank/pet, also with the casting sped up we should be casting your point damage and interrupt every time its up.Hope this helps a bit.

Oh when I use "control" I'm refering to stuns stifles dazes and mez,

Get at least 600 BOE, at least 30% crit and at least 850 int by 80.And of course all of your masters or at least t8 ad3s.After that just work on your casting order and find what works best for you.

noob question here. BOE? I am not familiar with this abbreviation. No doubt when enlightened, i'll go doh, but as of right now i have no idea what you mean. Also, casting order suggestions would be useful. I am grouping, and I am soloing, but those aren't the same thing as raiding, so I only have the barest of ideas what i can do to get good dps. Since this is my main, and I have not raided with a coercer, yet. So I can't count on proc'ing gear either, or any other 'raid' quality gear. So my first step is going to be trying to figure out what a good casting order is. One of the appealing qualitites to this class for me was the tremendous utility it brings along with the capability of good dps, if you can only learn what you are doing.

This changed when EoF when live:

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=253135Stat Caps

- All stat cap maximums have been increased from [ 7 * Level + 20 ] to [ 15 * level + 20 ]- Stat benefits are now on a diminishing returns curve

That will get you the maximum return, you don't want to sacrifice +spell damage or crits in order to get that last little bit though because you're in diminished return range. Also I believe data analysis has shown that the [level] field when being applied to a specific spell caps at that spell level. Meaning that to maximize benefit from a level 70 spell it takes 1070 and for a level 80 spell it takes 1220.

Again, great info Aule.

- Question: do you believe crit/+spell damage on a diminishing returns curve too?

- Re the spell cap analysis, sounds like this is a reason why T8 DPS spells are superior to T7 DPS spells even though the raw numbers don't look like they got much of a bump.

Crit rate has a straight baseline increase to damage that is very linear over time. It looks streaky in short run observations. In short, holding all other variables the same, the increase to your dps will be the same going from 0 to 10% crit as from 90 to 100%. Critting increases the base damage of your spell and thus allows more plus spell damage to be applied through.

Spell damage ends up having several categories.1) Spell damage modifier less than minimum throttle for spell2) Spell damage modifier greater than maximum throttle for spell3) Spell damage modifier greater than maximum throttle for spell that crits4) Spell damage modifier greater than maximum throttle for spell that crits and has other base damage modifiers such as volatile magic or Wand of Crystalized Plasma / Dark orb of the Mindetc

Where for a spell that does 500 to 1000 damage:min throttle would be 250 (500 * 0.5)max throttle would be 500 (1000 * 0.5)max throttle with volatile magic would be 625 (1000 * 1.25 * .5)max throttle with crit would be 650 (1000 * 1.3 * 0.5)max throttle with volatile magic and crit would be 812 (1000 * 1.25 * 1.3 * 0.5)

So yeah there are diminishing returns on spell damage, but the point at which it diminishes depends on what your particular spell allows through in the way of spell damage.

For myself at a bit over 900 int and +2% base spell damage cloak I see diminished returns after 700 spell damage. Some spells are capping before this, Hemorrhage at 456 for example, but the only spells not capped are Master Strike, Brainshock and Shock Wave.

Add in critting or volatile magic and this changes to about 900, crit with volatile magic is 1130sh. If everything lines up perfectly and I crit with volatile magic while wand of cystalized plasma is fired then 1200'll do it.

I would recomend going for at least 700 to 900 spell damage. Prior to the 700 mark and plus spell damage will make a much more significant impact in dps than crit rate will. This particularly holds true when you've got enough reuse haste that you can use brainshock and asylum as DD spells and just recast them as soon as they're up rather than waiting for the low dot damage to accumulate.

Once your spells are normally capped on spell damage then plus crit rate will return more of a benefit than additional plus spell damage.

Wow, thanks again Aule. As always, very interesting math and good practical advice derived from it. You're my hero!
