Let me start off by saying thanks for your time. We haven't played EQ2 since beta but we are jumping back in. My wife is going to play a Dark elf Wizzy on a PVP server. I have always stayed as far away from casters as possible. I have a few classes I am interested in and was wondering about the pros and cons of them duoing with a wizard.

The classes I am interested in proceeds as follows.

1. Tank Type Shadowknight/Guardian

2. Scout type Brigand/Assasin

IF I have to play a caster just because its a better duo then

3. Inquisitor

4. Coercer

Which ones would be the best, or atleast viable for pve/pvp? It seems anyone can solo in EQ2 so is great duo parties just min/maxing?

Yeah yeah thats what they always say, "my 'wife' wants to be a wiz", "my 'friend' has a problem with his love life" etc. Why dont you just admit it, you love wizards and you want to be one Seriously though wiz fight tend to be hard nuke, really fast so every time i duo with a tanker seem they want to drag fight out longer to fill a purpouse. Exception tough heroic nameds when tanker can be useful. Wiz soloing often about root/nuke so we sometimes much better without melee. Between Brig/Assasin i would choose Brig. They got great debuff and dps. I think assasins have more CA that require them to be from the back (any Assasin can say if wrong here) wich makes it a tad harder unless u want your wiz to tank.Having said that , if i could pick a duo for myself i would definately go for Nec with your wiz. Nec got both great tank and dps pet, good debuff and healing. Guess Coercer would work nicely though but i have no experience playing them. From what i read at Coercer forums they not that happy about the state of the class at the moment.(Sorry for poor spelling)

against mobs, lots of duo can do. I love Paladin for his agro management and healing capacities. But any pet owner is great also, pet being summoned or charmed.for PVP, I don't really know, then my opinion does not matter.

Troub would be first choice (both in pve and pvp).

Fury would be second.

Defiler if evil as 3rd, Pally if Good...

I would go with Troub though if you don't mind playing one, otherwise, I'd say play what pleases you the most, and you can make anything work =)

Think about this tidbit. Caster with healer, the caster will be mezzed or stunned and then the healer targeted (to keep them from healing the caster). Any other combo, caster will be first target as they will drop faster. Go SK instead of Guardian, if you choose that. Coercer can mezz or charm the one ganking the Wizzy, or the Wizzy can nuke whoever's going after the Coercer. Two casters in combat, you never really know who's going to be the first target. Just a little food for thought.

My wife and I almost exclusively duo. She is currently a 62 wiz and I have a 62 paladin, and the combo works amazingly well. My paladin has great versatility and holds aggro while she beats the mob(s) down. We can take on even and lower ^^^ heroic mobs, and the occasional ^^^ yellow heroic with just the two of us. I haven't played a SK, but they do get lifetaps and in many ways are similar to paladins. So, I would recommend the SK as a good duo partner. This is assuming PvE. I haven't played PvP, but I would assume for PvP having two large damage-dealers might work better, so Brig or Assassin would likely work well in that case.

Roll a necro and go down the tainted heals AA tree FTW. Your pet can tank, you can heal pet and nuke, wife can nuke. Necros can solo even level ^^^ cons by themselves, imagine what they could do with a wizzy partner. Trust me on this one, necro is the way to go.

They're not lying about the necro/wiz duo. Me and my wife do that as well, (I play the wizzy of course). we duo nest and den all the time, it just makes everything easy.

necros aint gonna solo anything ^^^ in high end RoK. If you still want to be viable at 80 as a team I'd suggest chanter.

Well since you're talking about a PvP server...Brigand. Why? Because you will be able to kill everyone that tries to gank your clothy bait.
