I've mostly been playing fighter archetypes and recently wanted to try the scouts. I've noticed it's becoming rather difficult to take down mobs and generally not die. I've never had this much difficulty before, and wondered if it is normal for scouts to be somewhat weak early on?

...keep at it!.....Swash is a difficult class to master due to the positional attacks, need to manage aggro, debuffs, etc. If you persevere, it will get easier.....Im sure it was the same when you started the fighter classes....it took some time to build your skill, your equipment, weapons, play style, etc.

I would say that rather than being weak early on....its more a question of experience playing a Swashbuckler.....we're very different from fighters (....lol...and everyone else). Again, I recommend keeping at it....

Good Luck!

Until you get more stuns and stronger poisons it may be quite difficult starting out. After about 24 or so it starts getting a lot easier, keep at it!

Make sure you pay attention to the quality of your weapons. You strength is your DPS ... kill it before it kills you. So do not wait for weapons to appear as rewards from quests. Make sure your weapons are the best you can get.

For a soloing, the 2 best pieces of advice I have....

Get the best weapons you can afford, and as soon as you have 5AA pts get Walk the Plank. The reason for the weapons is self-evident, we are killers not turtles. Yes, we can effectively off-tank, but it's not our strength.

Walk the Plank is even more beneficial. If you sneak up to a mob, hit it with our stun/knockdown, then a CA or 2, then Cheap Shot followed by another CA. Then trigger WtP, and follow up with more damage. Most of our solo fights last around 20 seconds, if not less. With WtP and Cheap Shot, we can avoid taking damage for at least half that. If you happen to get enough extra AAs, you can put 5 into the INT line and get Boot Dagger( now works with any weapon). This allows you to hit WtP, Boot Dagger, and then hit the stun/knockback you opened with, for even more uncontested damage. We may not be able to lock-down a MoB quite as well as a Brigand, but we can acquire the tools to come close.

Just remember, if the MoB can't attack you, it won't be able to hurt you, so Mit/Avoidance is secondary to DPS and stuns.
