Im not the re-rolling type so Im trying to get the full facts before I go 100% on coercer <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />How long does charm last? If its variable, take lvl ~20 as an example.
The full duration is 10 minutes or higher, but the mob has a chance to resist during the duration and cut the spell short, however, there is a warning (screen will turn monochrome gold) right before this occurs. It requires quick reflexes if you want to safely control a powerful mob, and Master versions of the spell (and preferably the talent which reduces chance of resist) are almost a requirement if charming is part of your strategy. I can't afford Master versions of the spell, so my strategy is a bit different. I only use charm if I get an add or its a 3+ mob pull. I'll use AOE mez, charm one, and single target mez the remaining mob. After the other mobs are down, I'll release the pet and finish it off. This is really only worth it when paired with the reactive you first acquire at level 23 that pretty much makes up the bulk of your DPS. Another thing to note is that charm is not the be all and end all for DPS that it was for the Enchanter in EQ Live. Any charmed mob will have their HP and damage severely reduced. It is still a valuable tool if used properly, but many people roll Coercer thinking they will have the ability to charm a mob and sit back twiddling their thumbs. I also have a lower level Illusionist and I find I enjoy the Coercer more, if that counts for anything. That's just what I've concluded thus far, but I'm only level 28 at the moment. You can't go wrong with a Coercer if you're looking for a challenge.
