Ranger Tree

This is my attempt to describe the various Achievement Abilities in the Ranger Tree.

There are 5 lines of abilities. Each line has 3-5 AAs that enhances a specific Ranger ability (usually a CA) and ends in an AA that either increases an ability or gives the Ranger a new CA.

The best way to decide which AAs to spend your points on is to look at the way YOU play YOUR Ranger and chose the AAs that enhance the abilities/CAs that you use the most. If you use Double Shot every single combat, then this would be a very good AA to spend your points on. If you never use Stream of Arrows then this would be a bad AA to spend your points on.

After looking at which abilities/CAs that you use the most, you will want to look at the "final" AA in each line and see if that Ability will help you play the game the way you want to. Note however that you do not want to choose the last AA in a line unless you already use most of other CAs in that line, because the real cost of the final AA is the points spent in the other AAs in the line. While each final AA only costs one point, each has a minimum point cost that you must have put into the other AAs in that line, sometimes requiring you to max out every other AA in that line.

Poisoning

If you use poisons then this is the line for you. Each AA enhances the effectiveness of one of three different poison types. In order they are:

Enhance: Caustic Poison

Enhance: Fettering Poison

Enhance: Ancillary Poison

If you do not use these particular types of poisons then your points may be better spent elsewhere. The final AA is called:

Conservation

This makes ALL poisons last 50% longer so if you use a lot of poisons then this AA can save you a lot of money.

Trapping

If you solo a lot then this is the line for you. Each of these AAs enhances one of the CAs a Ranger uses to keep the mob away. They are:

Enhance: Snare (slow him down)

Enhance: Lunge (root him)

Enhance: Leg Shot (hit him and slow him down)

Enhance: Thorny Trap (root him, hit him and slow him down)

The final AA is called:

Hook Arrow

I am not sure how useful this AA would be. It will make the mob come to you (something most Rangers would not like) and guarantee that your next melee attack will critical hit. However, since most Rangers' "normal" ranged attacks are far better than their "critical" melee hits I don't see this as necessarily a good thing.

Focusing

This is the indirect DPS line. Each of these AAs will indirectly affect your damage because they increase the effectiveness of an indirect damage CA, usually a buff.

The first AA is:

Enhance: Survival Instincts

This helps those Rangers that find they must stand in front of a mob. At the highest level it reduces the attack penalties for the defensive stance to zero. If you find yourself using defensive stance a lot this is the AA for you.

The next three AAs indirectly increase your DPS by enhancing the three short term combat "self buffs" that a Ranger gets. In order they are:

Enhance: Steady Aim

Enhance: Honed Reflexes

Enhance: Feral Instinct

The final AA is:

Extension

This indirectly increases your DPS by increasing the hit chance and weapon range of every ranged attack.

Survival

This line contains enhancements to various CAs that in general help a ranger survive when a fight goes bad.

Enhance: Sprint

Run away, run away! ‘Nuff said.

Enhance: Pathfinding

Horse? I don't need no stinkin' horse!

Enhance: Makeshift Arrows

It may be a pain and they are not as good as player made, but they are free.

Enhance: Escape

If you like to "push it" all the time, then this lets you "leave" faster and more often.

Enhance: Hawk Dive

For those Rangers that have figured out how to use "the bird", this makes him last longer.

Befriend Animal

For those Rangers that really want a pet, this is the AA for you.

MultiShot

This is the direct DPS line. Each of these AAs will directly increase the effectiveness of one of our offensive CAs.

The first two increase the effectiveness of two MultiShot "single target" CAs:

Enhance: Double Shot

Enhance: Triple Shot

The next two increase the effectiveness of our two "AoE" CAs:

Enhance: Pounce

Enhance: Storm of Arrows

The last one increases the effectiveness of our "AFK" CA:

Enhance: Stream of Arrows

The final AA is:

Double Arrow

This has the effect of increasing our ranged auto attack damage by firing a second shot some percentage of the time.

Again, the best way to spend your AA points in the Ranger Tree is to spend them on the abilities that you use the most, in order to help YOU play YOUR Ranger a little bit better.
