Nay saying is not helpful and writing the capabilities of a Coercer is not nay saying. And no half truths!!I might have doomed this thread by asking for no nay saying about coercers so I hope I have not doomed this thread already.I have been doing quite a bit of reading and thought I would make this post to receive some more input from the helpful advice givers.----------------------------------------I have gathered the information below from what i have read on the Coercer forum threads and read in-game : The charms up arrows are removed making the charm normal with less power and health, charm keeps it buffs and shares them when possible, charms are not commonly used in groupings, the charm's DPS is determined by the grade of charm spell and type of mob charmed, charm break is completely random even with the extra subjugation AAs and items, and finding a Master1 upgrade to the low lvl charms are tough to find. Some players play an Illusionist until they are lvl40 then betray to become a Coercer, and players with much coin tend to be the players who build Coercers. Coercer's solo capabilities are much more powerful at higher lvls than compared to lower levels. The solo strategies for a Coercer can be tedious in the low levels (i.e.,, root, only one short DoT, nuke, stun, nuke, root, nuke, root, nuke, mez to refresh recast of stun, and repeat) for tough heroic mobs. The solo capabilities in some zones are tough due to a lack of good, solo mob, charms that will not kill the Coercer when the charm breaks.-------------------------------------------------------I really like the challenge presented by the Coercer. I hope the helpful advice givers will enlighten me more. Thanks for reading. Mitakuyelvl19 Coercer (with all adept3s) @ Unrest

Hi Skybee, this is my first post so I'm gonna make it brief. My coercer is level 75 and I love it. I never have a hard time finding a group, and when class specific gear drops, chances are there aren't going to be many others to fight you for it (I got 4 pieces of EoF fabled in one raid). That was a super lucky night though. The earlier levels will be tough, but as you progress it will become easier, but not always easy.

My largest nugget of advice is do not use triple up mobs as pets. When they break, chances they are gonna kill you. I found in general(not always true) that single up mobs are the best pets. I do use one particular triple up pet.(only in the new expansion), but not any others because most triple pets lose large amounts of health much much faster than the mob it's fighting. I almost excusively use a mage or healer pet. I've found that most fighter type charmed pets aren't all that great. Maybe I missed something, but that's my observation. In the higher levels you might find some decent ones, or in RoK, but I almost always use a charmed caster pet using the /pet ranged command along with my root spell. I've been able to solo in zones 5 - 7 levels higher than me without any real worries once you are in the upper levels. Doing level 77-78 quests were easy for me at 71 solo, even some herioc ones.(I'm sure a lot of classes can, but i had a blast doing it without taking a ton of dirt naps) I can't say that about my defiler, or some other toons I have.

I know that's not much advice, but I hope it will prove to be helpful in your adventures. Once again, this is a fun class to play!! What other toon can drag along a 100 foot tall Ratonga or Troll pet for fun with an illusion??

Good luck!!

Apathetic - proud member of Heaven & Earth!!

Your right on the "have alot of coin" [Removed for Content] this class is expencive.. I rolled Oopsy after playing a troub, with the thought of "cool another low pop class = cheep books" my troub upto 30 was costing about 15g a master book..To my shock, the only master charm books for 10 and 20 were 4.5p each! with adept 3 being upto 85g and adept 1 aroung 5g+....We aint cheep, it's bit like healers in alot of mporgs , people know certain spells, are a must have, will [Removed for Content] and moan if you dont have it maxed... then charge you your first born child to sell it too you Class can be bit boring till 23, but then we sudenly solo easy, your bigest threat is and always will be your own pet, "its bit like idea of a tank falling over mid fight and landing on its own sword" curently I very rarely charm, unless the mob is least 2-3 levs higher than me, but if I do, stuff drops fast..Unlike my other chars, joining a guild group and having to mentor can be a pain.. Guild poped into a dungion and we all mentored too lowest guildy, everything was normal, my basic dd was hapily hiting for 300+ but everytime i tryed hit my proc reactives i saw "mob is too low to cast it spell on"Think of us as the Marmite of EQ2, by 20 you hate us or love us, there is no inbetween...

If you like a challenge, endless variety of pets and non boring gameplay, a Coercer is great.
I had some reservations at low levels, pulling my hair out and near random fits of tourettes like behaviours...

to say the least tho, finaly getting past the level 40 hump then 50 it started getting easier with more spells

to use , more AA points. So just go for it if you really enjoy strong solo play, and eventualy a good spot in groups, we tend to be over looked and not as loved as bards, but when the right mix makes a group its a non stop kill fest

good posts. thanks. Yeah, I definitely recommend a new Coercer finding a group or a high level mentor to get the adventure level quickly up to at least lvl21. I say lvl21 since I am currently just lvl21 and sure is easier soloing the low end range blue con ^^^ mobs. I enjoy questing except with a Coercer. I think I am gonna go power leveling with this fella; normally i do not like power leveling except with a Coercer. I read folk saying I should not even solo ^^^ mobs, but there is no choice other than play'n a different character type when solo, as in not labeled as heroic, quests require the ^^^ and bad timing leads to very little duoing or grouping. My old strategy as a lvl19 Coercer is explained below. -------------------------------------------------As a lvl19 Coercers, the blue mobs began at lvl17 best i recall. When I was lvl19, all of my spell buffs and attacks were adept3, basic mastercrafted items equipped in all slots, and my solo strategy was in the following spell order : <Beginning of spell order> Root mob HO trigger Chronosiphoning (AA spell with 8 points in it) send pet to melee attack Cerebral Lash (24sec DoT) Gloom -mstr2 (24sec DoT) Daunting Gaze (6sec stun) Mind Slice (single target nuke) Root mob Silence (8sec stifle) Ego Shock (4sec daze) HO trigger Mind Slice Root mob Mind Slice Mez mob Now, the 2 initial DoTs have expired, and if lucky, the charm has died at or near the last root. Since DoTs have expired, mez mob and hurry up to charm another near by mob. <End of spell order> With a lvl17^^^ (blue con) mob, mob has lost at least 40% health. With a lvl16^^^ (green con) mob, mob has lost at least 50% health. Repeat the above spell order until mob is dead. Takes about 3 minutes to kill the lvl17^^^ blue con. Remember, the stun, daze, and stifle originally takes 2 seconds to cast. ---------------------------------------------------------- Even now at lvl21 Coercer, blue con ^^^ mobs kill me within 5 hits when lucky and 8 hits from a green con ^^^ when lucky.

Oh yeah, forget to mention that the spell order I use is also partly determined by the Heroic Opportunity (HO) wheel. Completing the HO wheel helps.

Welp, play'n a bit as lvl21, I definately I can say lvl21 is easier with the new charm, debuff, and DPS buff. Spell order has changed a bit.
