I have been playing EQ2 since 2005 and I have never understood why SONY's EQ2 team introduces bugs that never get caught by their QA team.I have been a software engineer for over 20 years. I manage a large group of engineers now with full release cycles, project planning, DEV team and QA teams - with some aspects of extreme programming. We have issues, yes, nobody is perfect, but nothing like I have seen with SONY.The PATCHER for the last four weeks has been stopping the update with "update canceled" forcing you to press the DOWNLOAD text under the patcher lines. It is constant. It forces you to sit there for hour after hour to monitor the download process because it will cancel. Today I had to press it no less than six times for an update that only took 5 minutes.I can't even imagine you poor fools who have 30+ hours of digital downloads. This bug didn't exist a month ago, what did you guys at SONY do now?Earlier this year it was the UI bug. Week after week after week EQ2 would crash - constantly. No matter how much we told you it was happening, you completely ignored us.Many of us, like myself, canceled our accounts and waited until it was patched - which took almost a month for them to even acknowledge. Once it was fixed, we came back. SONY. You will never change will you.

This doesn't happen to everyone... they cant reproduce a bug/ fix it if it does not happen on their computers.that being said: Give the whole dxdiag and all that jazz and lets see what we can fix.

I'm on XP HOME, not Vista.

How do you know it is affecting less than .05% of the customer base? Where are you getting your statistics from?I run EQ2 on two separate boxes, BOTH patchers do it. Two of my close friends play EQ2, BOTH of their patchers do it. My Guild in EQ2, many of them have also complained about it.And you come in here and throw numbers around?Pretty typical. Blame the user. Blame the machine. Abscond SONY.

I actually randomly have this problem. It's not bothersome enough to deal with, but I'm running two comps - Windows XP Home, both do it. Like I said, it's not bothersome enough, the digi download only canceled out a few times, but just want to vouch for this person, that it IS happening. The settings have not changed in a single way on either computer either. For me, it's been doing it since RoK.

I had to sit at the computer, reading a book and browsing the web so I could continue to hit the DOWNLOAD text each time it stopped. It took over 6 hours total (I had to run it over the course of several days) before I finally got ROK downloaded. It was solely due to it auto-canceling. During the ROK patch, there were dozens of threads here of downloads canceling. Ah, it really doesn't matter because who cares about .05% of the users anyway.

infy567: I have the same problem. It started happening on the evening of December 12th. One day I could play just find, and the next I couldn't. I didn't make any changes to my setup - it just didn't update properly. I watched the download time climb from 10 minutes to 6 hours, then released it had canceled on me. Once again, I tried to restart the download and a minute later it canceled again. There are many MMOs out there that fix problems like this immediately. I assumed SONY would have it fixed today, but it still hasn't been fixed.I don't play EQ2 because it is the best game in the world. I play it because I already own it and it's convenient. When it is no longer convenient for me to come home after a day at the office and log in to the game that I pay for monthly - I'll be switching to another game.

There are several security settings that come installed with Windows Vista that we will need to modify to allow your game to run without interference. Please make sure you do all of the following steps. Section One: Running as Administrator 1. Right click on the game's icon and go to properties 2. Go to the compatibility tab 3. Click on "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select XP Service Pack 2 4. Check "Run this program as administrator" 5. Click Apply 6. Right Click on the game's icon once again 7. Click "Run as Administrator"

Section Two: Working Around the User Access Control (UAC) 1. Make sure you are logged in on an Administrator account. 2. Navigate to the game's folder (Usually c:program filessony will contain the game's folder) 3. Right click on the game's folder and go to properties 4. Click on the Security Tab 5. Click on the Edit button. 6. Go through each username or group listed and make sure all "Allow" boxes are checked 7. Ensure that no "Deny" boxes are checked and click OK. After these steps, if you are still getting a Download Cancelled error in your game's Launchpad on Windows Vista, please refer to the article Contacting Tech Support for further assistance.

If not running Vista, then make sure that Internet Explorer is not set to "work offline" if it's not your default browser.

Mine is not (I actually had that problem a few months ago, when changing ISP's). But if it's set in such a way, it will not allow you to go past the patcher. At least, that's what happened to me, I could enter my name and pw, but once I tried to connect, I couldn't even get inside to download anything.(And again, not Vista *shudders at the thought* )Wouldn't that setting force it to do this every time? It's very random for me, it doesn't happen every time, I'm not even able to reproduce it. Which shows some sort of bug somewhere on their side, that is in the connection process, to me at least.
