**Major Cautions **

1. it is still a release candidate, things may change, some things maybe still broken, it is not a full release, it my not be stable in all cases, especially with the more outdated hardware and drivers

2. make sure you follow the instructions on the link to the last period, if you do not you can end up with an unstable configuration, with little chance of going back. Be very sure you have set a restore point before you install it

3. make sure the applications from 3rd party vendors that you run will supply support in case of problems after the installation of the RC of SP1. Anti-Virus programs are a good example, there are some changes in how outside applications link in into the Vista kernal for example.

Another caution I would add is that this RC1 is time-limited software... it will cease to function after June 30, 2008.

Bottom line is - unless you know what you are doing with the machine and the OS, wait for the production release of the patch. Never put a beta/release candidate on any machine you are not willing to have to do a format and fresh install on

Just to clarify the time limited part-

Windows Vista SP1 RC is time-limited software.Windows Vista SP1 RC will no longer operate after June 30, 2008 and should be uninstalled prior to that date. After installation your desktop will show the text "Evaluation Copy". This does not mean that your system is no longer genuine but that you have installed a test version of software which is time-limited. The "Evaluation Copy" text will appear on your desktop after the second reboot after installing the service pack. Likewise, the "Evaluation Copy" text will remain on your desktop during the first reboot after uninstall the service pack, but will disappear after the next reboot.

So it doesnt make your windows time limited just the SP1 RC. I am sure long before then the final version will be out.

I just got my computer back up and running a couple days ago after installing Vista Ultimate 64. I saw that SP-1 was available, but was planning on holding off for final release. It seems that EQ2 wants me to install it now. When I was logging into the game the first time I was warned that my operating system would use more resources or something ( don't remember exact wording) and suggested that I install the current service pack. I didn't have much chance to play, but the game seemed to run fine while I was in. I'll have to see how it goes when I have more play time. I'm not too keen on the idea of installing beta stuff (

Next to the continue option was a little clickable box with a Question mark in it. It took me to windows update. There's an update for Vista 32, and 64 bit systems (hotfix for windows KB940105) a small update, and not SP-1 as I thought. Restarted computer and went into the game, no message.
