I box my Defiler with a Swashbuckler..it's a good duo for me as they are both my favorite classes.
Well I've been having a great deal of fun dual boxing him with my Dirge. just whack on the debuffs, the dot, DD and dogdog and then I can concentrate on the dirge. I am only lvl 22 though!

Well you as a Defiler have some choices here, but I have two recommendations!

Brigand - They do massive damage, and they can play with aggro as well as turning the mob. They just have so many tricks up their sleeves it makes them a flexible butt kicking duo with anyone pretty much!

Tanks (Zerker/Guard/Bruiser) - A bruiser offers a nice amount of butt kicking, and they have a few tricks up their sleeves. All three can hold the aggro off the defiler while you get your debuffs and DOT's in. This combo will take a wee bit longer to kill with, but when you want a group set up you have the primary components in place. After that you just need a little DPS and your gravy. Sometimes finding a tank/healer can be tough for a group.

With both of these subclasses you as a defiler hook them up with the strength and the additional mitigation that they need to take a smash to the face as well as offer the pounding to the mobs. Mainly depends on what you want to play as your secondary class.

You can still make a good duo with a caster as well, but a fury or an inquisi would be a better duo with a caster.. (int buffs) If I wanted to have a caster as my secondary I would choose a Necro as you will give his tank pet a little more smashy power. Just remember you will need to assist pet at all times to keep an eye on the pet.

*Note I have been mentioning the evil/neutral classes for a reason... You want the defiler to be able to call home to the same location and chill so you don't have to run so much.

As Alaocia said, boxing with a tank is money. When I started my Defiler alt, I would bring along my monk main, and mentor. It worked out great, because I got through the solo questlines rather quickly, as well as gaining xp for both the Defiler, as well as AA for the monk. Probably one of the best classes to pair up w/ a defiler though would have to be an SK. Their spells match up nicely with your debuffs (poison and disease). Also they have the ability to heal themselves, if the stuff hits the fan. Add in a Warlock or a necro, and you pretty much have an unstoppable group.

I've been boxxing mine w/ a brigand. Great fun. Brigands can be specced to tank pretty well, plus still dish out great damage. My Brigand at 31 has 3 taunts, plus an aa ability that taunts mobs that hit him. I can pull with a couple taunts, tab over to the defiler drop a ward and debuffs, then tab over to the brigand to rock the mob.

When I was considering which box to add to my defiler, I wanted damage so I tried an assasin, which didnt work out for me. You have to be quick as [Removed for Content] to keep up on the heals and still land all your positional attacks. The brigand does awesome damage and doesn't drop in half a second. Plus the brigand brings great utility. Including group stealth, and evac. If you've ever quested up a class that couldn't invis, you understand how helpful group stealth is.

I'm not going to knock a tank/healer duo. My zerker got to 65 primarily duo'd with my wife's fury. Its nice and safe, and I specced my zerker to do as much damage as I can squeeze out of him. I wish they killed faster. I wouldn't want to try that with a defiler because druids do better damage and have more utility.

My 2 cents

I box mine with any of the following 'tanking' Zerker, Troub, Necro pet..... I used to duo a lot with a friend that ran an SK, and that probably is the best combo if you check out the abilities, but I doubt you will go wrong with anything that can swing a mildly heavy object, or at least has some mitigation.

brigand, monk, bruiser

all 3 of above classes can tank well if specced right and dps well if specced right... all work great in combo with a defiler. also FD = teh win, also group invis (brig) = teh win.

brigand is a better choice if you want to end up with 2 raiding toons. brawler is a better choice if you want to end up with a cash farmer alt.

I box with a friend of mine, he is running a SK, and I must say that I Prefer that over the Bruiser that I also have been boxing with. The SK can handle the beatings a little better, they have drain life, so I pretty much only throw up wards and have time to dps in between, I honestly think it makers up for the lost dps from using SK > Bruiser, and I feel its much more safe like this.

I've twoboxed with a beserker and a guardian and prefer them as a twoboxing team. They dish out plenty of damage and have excellent mitigation for when wards to start to drop and have high survivability while you have your defiler recasting that ward back into place.

I'm probably the oddball but I dual box my Defiler with a Ranger. Most mobs are dead or near death by the time they reach the duo. Running instances is much harder than with a Tank or Brigand but the Ranger was around first and I'm to lazy to level up a third toon to 80 right now so I make it work.

I box mine with a Necro. The necro tank pet is pretty impressive (even without any tank related AA) and it takes care of all the taunting/agro for you. The necro himself is pretty fire and forget for reasonable damage with a few key mashes + I have rez, FD and lifeburn. My debuffs compliment this pairing too.

At the same time I don't really like the necro class but for ease and speed it's pretty impressive to box with a defiler IMHO.

I would have to agree with the above poster. Necro and Defiler are an awesome team. With the right AP lines for necro, healing, tanking and dps are already factored in. Necro tank pet will lock down aggro on it's own, and the Necro has some of the best heals for pet already. All the Defiler has to do is get behind the mob, send in pet, debuff, ward, and work on the dps.

I'll also use the Defiler to augment heals when going up against an over even level Heroic, as at level 29, my Necro can only solo up to some even level Heroics.
