I think I'm in trouble. I've been playing EQ2 regularly since Aug 2006 with no real problems. I finally purchased RoK last month from Best Buy but for some reason I couldn't install it. It kept giving me a CRC error. A friend, who is a geek and also plays EQ2 and other games including WoW, was going to come over to help me, but hadn't the time so far. A SoE work-around suggests updating firmware of CD/DVD drive but can lead to demise of the drive if not done correctly. That leaves me out! I am as non-geek as one can get!So, a guildie suggested I copy the files from the CD onto a new folder on the desktop and then click the setup.exe and when it asked for disc 2 and 3 to insert per instructions. Well, I did that, only it wouldn't accept disc 2, nor 3. Once again it stated it was a CRC error. So, I terminated the installation procedures (setup.exe).Then I figured to copy the files from Disc 2 and 3 into the new folder I set up for the first disc. Well, go figure - it said it would overwrite the installation files, etc. from disc 1 that I already copied on my desktop. At this point, I decided I would wait on my friend to come and help me install RoK. I have plenty of quests and things to do as a level 70 warden through KoS and EoF, so I wasn't concerned about having to wiz up to level 80 in a new york minute. This morning, I decided to check in and transfer some harvestings to one of my 2 alts who is into carpentry. Well, alas, the updating process began, so I figured it was frostfell coming to town or perhaps some sort of maintenance or emergency uploads from SoE. What do I know... I went off to do some laundry. Here it is 16 hours later and still updating. What? What am I updating? I canceled the installation process from the file setup.exe so why is it updating? Updating what? Is it totally reinstalling the game? I already have all expansions (except RoK) and adventure packs and the original EQ2 on my computer. Does it HAVE to reinstall all adventure packs and expansions and original all over again? Isn't that a bit redundant? Do I lose my 3 characters? How is it updating when I never copied disc 2 and 3 onto my desktop from the discs? It says, there is another two days worth of updating to follow (52 and some hours). I just don't understand. How can I stop this process and get back to my normal questing around Norrath without RoK? I want to wait for my friend to come and figure all this out. As for my computer, my friend built it for me. All I know is that is is a gaming computer and is very fast (I usually am the first or one of the first pple to zone into an instance or where ever including raids). It has Nvidia and Geoforce stuff that is the latest and two CD/DVDs, BVDs that are automatic for updating and so on. This probably isn't enough info, but that's all I can give you at the moment since I don't know how to do computer geek things. Oh... and there is a ton of megabites - so no problem to copy all 3 EQ2 discs onto my desktop, if it would let me do so. It wouldn't even take up a third of my drive.thank you in advance for any assistance if I made any sense of what is going on. Should I just keep letting it update for the next 2 plus days?

If you've added the account key to your account, then the patcher is downloading the files you need for the expansion. Depending on your internet speed, it can take a significant amount of time to patch. The patch time can be reduced if you disable any network blockages. Disabling the firewalls and antivirals temporarily can help.I hope this helps you. Best regards,Richard

RichardThank you so much for your assistance. You turned something that I didn't understand into a very easy solution that I could handle. Although it took me about 20 minutes and one phone call to my friend to find the firewalls and antiviral items to disable, the rest was so easy, I am almost embarrassed that I wrote about my difficulties.Once I added the account key, the updating took approximately 50 minutes! And it didn't even need those two other discs that were in the box!Thank you again for taking the time to explain things to a non-geek! I hope your boss gives you a raise. You most certainly deserve one.Celestina, toltec healerwarden in training lvl 70alchemist in training lvl 70

Best regards,Richard
I hope the OP is having better luck.I have successfully downloaded the RoK expansion pack and have played the EoF pack but I can't access the new content. Where do I put in the 20-digit number for RoK, at what point in the process? Thanks for any advice, don't mean to hijack a thread but this is the exact problem I am having. I love this game but the download process is so daunting compared to other MMOs out there it seems.
