View Full Version : Questions about Wards and Crits

Last night I was actually having a blast doing quests in Kunzar Jungle soloing. So far it's been the most fun in the new zones. And I got the my first Overloaded Heal quest item upgrade so I can't wait to try that out and I was also able to defeat a ^^ even heroic the second time(although I dont' they made him that tuff) - so that made my day. Afterwards when I was looking at my DPS parse I decided to also look at my heal parse noticed that only Stoicism did any critical healing. So I went back and looked at zone wide parse and pretty much the same thing stoicism procs crits and a few direct heals but regular st ward and group ward never crit. So I thought maybe because I'm looking at just soloing and not group parses. So I went to look at a group parse from CoA, and sure enough no critical heals on wards. Maybe it was because I changed my AP from STR to AGI and I didn't have the heal crit (btw last night I had 4 points in the heal crit - roughl 12% extra chance I believe). So I checked my log files stretching back to the beginning of this year and sure enough even in Raids and groups I didn't see regular wards doing any critical healing. But Torpor/Stoicism would crit - a lot. But why? The only thing I can of is that the regen factor acts like a regular spell and therefore it can check that for crit chances. So I looked at Druids and Clerics that I grouped/raided with and guess what, they crit like mad on their special heals and direct heals -- which again makes sense because they are spell procs. So I thought maybe ACT wasn't catching the crit's on wards for some reason. So I looked in the log files. Umbral liturgy (group ward) NEVER crits. Ethereal Aegis DID crit but ONLY when it finished the ward without actually healing at the end of a fight. So this would be the log file I would see: "YOUR Ethereal Aegis CRITICALLY healed you for 0 Points". I checked and double checked. And this was what it was doing every time a fight ended with the ward lasting the full time. So I checked the forums to see if anyone else experienced these problems. I found threads highlighting a an issue that SoE corrected that when wards would crit they would allow damage to go through. Well it's looks like SoE corrected the issue by making wards not being able crit AT ALL. Does this mean wards are gimped? Am I understanding this the wrong way? Prior to the web board change they did add the critical healing to wards and they were supposed to be doing that. I will go back to earlier logs from last year and see it that is the case. Your thoughts....

<p>I deleted my mystic long ago so I can't remember...do wards have a heal range?(i.e wards for 395 - 567 for example) Or is it just one solid number? If I am remembering this right, the bigger the range the more it will crit for but I have no idea how crits would work on something that has no range.</p><p>It might be that criting wards messed with the game play mechanics regarding crits so it was removed completely.</p>

Rather it's a fixed number of damage it can absorb.I don't believe that the mechanics were messed because according to the patch note from earlier this year it stated that wards were fixed for leaking during crits.

Yea, I noticed that too . . . fortunately it's a display/logging problem as opposed to a true mechanical. When I parse I don't show any crits, however, when I go back and examine "max hit", I find things like Umbral Liturgy with a Max Hit of 4506 . . . clearly a crit . . . it just doesn't show up as a critical. Same thing with Ancestral Aegis . . . Max Hit of 2535 . . . clearly a crit on a 1900 HP Ward, it just didn't log that way.

I'm not sure it's an ACT problem . . . I think it may be a display or perhaps logging problem on the SOE side.I'm not sure it isn't an ACT problem either. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

What I meant is that it should be a new feature to ACT to account for this text change. That way we can see it in the parser correctly.
