just deleted my big long post... here it is in a nut shell...

NO healers.... if you dont have a healer, who best to support you... us?

It's getting more frequent that I am tanking and healing myself, I am being asked to come tank, and in return, when i get yellow, oh ya, you better heal yourself!! ????? Is this the direction you have seen? just curious.

Don't mind it cause im hitting Cazic Thule, and other places I wanted to go to... and the respect just flows in when you save a group from disbandonment cause you can do both. Level 50 rocks as a Paladin, solo, group, raid, I am just loving it.

So the reason of the post is to clarify two things,

1. I don't care if this is a role i have to take, I am sticking with the same aa specs we have discussed the whole time... but i have never carried around two sets of gear... can you please, describe what type of gear you are supposed to carry in your second set? my main is just master crafted ebon, ( one more level till cobalt) only cause most gear is only slightly comparable , and im spending my money on master's if i can. I just don't know how to pick gear for second set. I am not sure what i am looking for in that regard, I am actively guild raiding now, our guild leader has designated that raids are to start up again, (paused for ROK advancement of high levels).I want to bring the right gear, as in one raid, i was a dps'er, tank support, (learning to main assist). Other i was a quick spot healer, melee only.

2. I covered both with that question i guess. do you see this as a bad thing? healing your self while raiding? and the gear, thanks for your comments.

At level 50, mastercrafted is going to be your best bet. It has been a long time since my pally was at that level, but i dont remember there being alot of better options than mastercrafted. At higher levels, 60+ you begin to see alot of alternatives. I keep 2 sets of gear, and some situational gear on hand. The two main sets (which i have macros for) are for group tanking or group/raid dps. My tank gear consists of the best mix of avoidance (+agi +defense +parry) hit points (+stam +hps) and mitigation....in that order within reason. My second set of DPS gear consists of anything with +spell damage, +double attack, +combat art damage, dmg proc gear, and anything with str and int. I dont usually care if it is chain leather or cloth in this mode because I am dps and dont plan to get hit much. RoK has given me alot more options for this 70+. I am now at level 76 and have only done most of the quests in KP and Fens, and havnt found much replacement tank gear yet. At level 50 the only thing i would consider for a second set of gear is some +int jewlry, and the str and agi master crafted rings (which are good for tanking also). When I solo, or am in small groups (2 or 3 total people) I have some heal proc gear if needed, or mix up some of my tanking gear with dps gear depending on how hard the content is. Now its up to you to know when best to use which gear. If i'm tanking in a group, but the content is very easy, I may tank in alot of my dps gear with the sword and shield, and adjust according to the difficutly. If tanking in a single group for an epic x2 that is a few levels higher, I will use the strait up tank gear.

To answer the tank/healer part of your post, for easier content it can be beneficial to be both main tank and main healer because that means you have 5 dps in your group with you, and stuff dies very fast in which case you dont need to worry alot about heals. For the higher end heroic content though, this can work specced right and geared right, but is not as efficient in tuff zones. I play MT and MH alot when I'm in duo or trio groups, but if you plan on going in against any hard content for the best legendary gear, get a healer or two. You will not be expected to do it all yourself.

mainly what you are going to keep as your second set of gear is jewelery. I keep pieces specifically for tanking (high stam, +aggression, stuff like that) and I keep stuff for damage (low stam, but good str/int and good dps bonuses). Sometimes I mix and match this if I need more dps to hold agro, or need more stam to stand in one piece.

As for armor, The only back up pieces I carry are those that have a chance of being damaged by special mobs (bloodbeast in HoS as an example, every tank should have a back up set of legs), where I don't want my primary piece to suffer unnecessary and unavoidable damage.

Now for weapons... well, let's just say I'm a walking arsenal and leave it at that? No... Ok. I carry 3 two handers (all swords). One is my primary DPS two hander, one is my solo two hander (for KoS stuff) and one is an old sword I keep around for appearance purposes (the katana from HoF). I carry 3 one handers, my Vilucidae's, my Draconic Accord Blade and my Warder's Call (my old legendary sword I carry for Nostalgia from my pre raiding days).

is there a post out there that i cant find, that describes more detail what each item does.. like " hold aggro" i think thats the most confusing one, I hate it when i am the highest ranking and tanking and someone ,anyone pulls aggro off of me, drives me nuts, so i got your info so far, thank you.. so just peg on the aggro gear a little , you are saying that i need to get +agi+def+parry, great, i can do that, but is that specifically getting me not hit as much? therefore a great tank... but what would i lose by keeping that for soloing, that is where i am confused more... I am doing great with my ebon MC gear, Great bow, shield of dissarray which rocked at 35, but needs to be replaced. I just want to make the final purchase this week of everything that will take me to 62 and lots of raids and stuff. Getting great group time, and the healing is just strange, but makes more sense now. so thanks.

I carry around 3 sets of gear.. + some other items I only use now and then..

I have a full dps set(armor as well) This includes any item with int/str/+dps/+double attack/+melee crit/+dmg proc/+spell crit. Im basically a squishy in that outfit.

I have 3-4 pieces with de-aggro effects incase I do too much aggro on raids.. a dead paladin does even less dps than a tank specced one..

I have a tank set that focus on sta,agi and healing procs.. +defense and +parry and +block are main extras Im looking for for tank set. When trying out gear keep a watch on your mitigation percentage and your avoidance percentage, to find the best match. I.e. 2 % less mitigation isnt worth +1% avoidance..

When I solo I use a mix of tank and dps gear.. my mitigation runs about 3k in solo gear with about 33% avoidance.. good enough to fight lvl 80^solo/named mobs in RoK at 76.. Think u can search up Vulkan on Runnyeye on eq2players to see my current solo gear..

I also have a healing set from RoK(which will be nerfed soon) that has alot of healing procs on melee attack, healing spells, hostile spells etc.. high wis too.. Only use this if my main role is secondary healer..

As for keeping aggro.. make sure you have your amends to master 1, your taunts to adept III or higher, and do use sigil of heroism and rescue in a pinch or when u need aggro bad. Oh.. and make sure u put amends on the best suitable target in your group.. test around and swap to another person, getting aggro too much, if nescessary.. Brigands and Assassins will occasionally get aggro no matter what.. but they do it on purpose.. :p They have good deaggros tho.. so dont mind them..

Unless you're raiding you only need one set of equipment. Better to have one sweet set to tank *and* dps in than to one mediocre tanking set and one mediocre dps set. When you start looking at raiding, it's in everyone's interest to start expanding your horizons. My warlock has a solo set, a full dps set, a deaggro set, and a mana regen set. Within each of these I make sure to balance for all resists as well. Tanks only really need a dps set and a tanking set, and to be frank, tanks aren't going to get a whole lot out of having a dps set compared to other classes.Having a healing set of armor is kinda ridiculous. What do you have, +WIS? You're not going to get much power out of it since its split between STR and WIS. And who needs a lot of power anyway? It's mana regen thats important, not max power when you're healing. And also the quality of your spells as well. When you get into kunark and you see lots of +healing stuff and heal procs, then it might make sense to keep around a couple pieces for healing purposes. But sub-80 there is largely no need whatsoever. You don't need healing gear, or a healing spec to heal a heroic group. You just have to have ad3 spells and a group that knows how to use stun/daze properly.

If your 50....you shouldn't be worried about having multiple sets of gear!

Until you start hitting the top tier of the game (currently 70-80) just do your best to make a tanking set of armor and keep your spells to the best upgrade you can afford. Your going to outgrow this stuff soon anyways so multiple sets of equipment that your going to outgrow is just a bad idea.

Once you hit 80 you can start thinking about a second set of armor. You'll have lots of choices suddenly, and RoK offers equipment with all kinds of bonuses to specialize your role.

Some thoughts: You pick your own role. If your mostly doing pickup groups then you'll be expected to tank. High mittigation, and avoidance are your primary concerns. Everything else should be secondary.

If your doing regular groups carve your own nitch. If someone else wants to tank all of the time, then picking up a set of +damage gear and/or +healing is certainly attractive. Even with +damage gear you'll never be competition for the actual DPS classes but you have enough healing to act as a decent secondary healer with enough +healing.

If your raiding, talk to your raid leader sometime when your not raiding to see what they feel they need. Generally you'll probably be off tank so you'll have some flexability in equipment choices. Even as main tank you might want to gear up more on +melee damage gear than +ca or +healing.
